Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • Paul's Request for Prayer

    For the rest, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run and be glorified, even as also with you;
  • Paul’s Request for Prayer

    Finally, dear brothers and sisters,a we ask you to pray for us. Pray that the Lord’s message will spread rapidly and be honored wherever it goes, just as when it came to you.
  • and that we may be delivered from bad and evil men, for faith [is] not [the portion] of all.
  • Pray, too, that we will be rescued from wicked and evil people, for not everyone is a believer.
  • But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you and keep [you] from evil.
  • But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.b
  • But we trust in the Lord as to you, that the things which we enjoin, ye both do and will do.
  • And we are confident in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we commanded you.
  • But the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patience of the Christ.
  • May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.
  • Warning against Idleness

    Now we enjoin you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw from every brother walking disorderly and not according to the instruction which he received from us.

  • An Exhortation to Proper Living

    And now, dear brothers and sisters, we give you this command in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay away from all believersc who live idle lives and don’t follow the tradition they receivedd from us.
  • For ye know yourselves how ye ought to imitate us, because we have not walked disorderly among you;
  • For you know that you ought to imitate us. We were not idle when we were with you.
  • nor have we eaten bread from any one without cost; but in toil and hardship working night and day not to be chargeable to any one of you:
  • We never accepted food from anyone without paying for it. We worked hard day and night so we would not be a burden to any of you.
  • not that we have not the right, but that we might give ourselves as an example to you, in order to your imitating us.
  • We certainly had the right to ask you to feed us, but we wanted to give you an example to follow.
  • For also when we were with you we enjoined you this, that if any man does not like to work, neither let him eat.
  • Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.”
  • For we hear that [there are] some walking among you disorderly, not working at all, but busybodies.
  • Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business.
  • Now such we enjoin and exhort in [the] Lord Jesus Christ, that working quietly they eat their own bread.
  • We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living.
  • But *ye*, brethren, do not faint in well-doing.
  • As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good.
  • But if any one obey not our word by the letter, mark that man, and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed of himself;
  • Take note of those who refuse to obey what we say in this letter. Stay away from them so they will be ashamed.
  • and do not esteem him as an enemy, but admonish [him] as a brother.
  • Don’t think of them as enemies, but warn them as you would a brother or sister.e
  • Paul's Final Greetings

    But the Lord of peace himself give you peace continually in every way. The Lord [be] with you all.

  • Paul’s Final Greetings

    Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.
  • The salutation by the hand of me, Paul, which is [the] mark in every letter; so I write.
  • Here is my greeting in my own handwriting — Paul. I do this in all my letters to prove they are from me.
  • The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you all.
  • May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
