Warnings against False Teachers

But the Spirit speaks expressly, that in latter times some shall apostatise from the faith, giving their mind to deceiving spirits and teachings of demons

1

А Дух ясно говорить, що від віри відступляться дехто в останні часи́, ті, хто слухає духів підступних і наук де́монів,

2

speaking lies in hypocrisy, cauterised as to their own conscience,

хто в лицемірстві гово́рить неправду, і спалив сумління своє,

3

forbidding to marry, [bidding] to abstain from meats, which God has created for receiving with thanksgiving for them who are faithful and know the truth.

хто одру́жуватися забороняє, наказує стри́муватися від їжі, яку Бог створив на поживу з подякою віруючим та тим, хто правду пізнав.

4

For every creature of God [is] good, and nothing [is] to be rejected, being received with thanksgiving;

Кожне бо Боже тво́риво добре, і ніщо не негідне, що приймаємо з подякою,

for it is sanctified by God's word and freely addressing [him].

воно бо освячується Божим! Словом і молитвою.

A Good Minister of Jesus Christ

Laying these things before the brethren, thou wilt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished with the words of the faith and of the good teaching which thou hast fully followed up.

Як бу́деш оце подавати братам, то будеш ти добрий служи́тель Христа Ісуса, годований словами віри та доброї науки, що за нею слідо́м ти пішов.

7

But profane and old wives' fables avoid, but exercise thyself unto piety;

7

Цурайся нечистих та ба́бських байо́к, а вправляйся в благоче́сті.

8

for bodily exercise is profitable for a little, but piety is profitable for everything, having promise of life, of the present one, and of that to come.

Бо вправа тілесна мало кори́сна, а благоче́стя кори́сне на все, бо має обі́тницю життя тепе́рішнього та майбу́тнього.

The word [is] faithful and worthy of all acceptation;

9

Вірне це слово, і гі́дне всякого прийняття́!

for, for this we labour and suffer reproach, because we hope in a living God, who is preserver of all men, specially of those that believe.

Бо на це ми й працюємо і зно́симо га́ньбу, що надію кладемо на Бога Живого, Який усім лю́дям Спаси́тель, найбільше ж для вірних.

Enjoin and teach these things.

Наказуй оце та навчай!

12

Let no one despise thy youth, but be a model of the believers, in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

Нехай молодим твоїм віком ніхто не горду́є, але будь зразко́м для вірних у слові, у житті, у любові, у дусі, у вірі, у чистості!

13

Till I come, give thyself to reading, to exhortation, to teaching.

13

Поки прийду́ я, пильнуй чита́ння, нага́дування та науки!

14

Be not negligent of the gift [that is] in thee, which has been given to thee through prophecy, with imposition of the hands of the elderhood.

Не зане́дбуй благода́тного дара в собі, що був да́ний тобі за пророцтвом із покла́денням рук пресвітерів.

15

Occupy thyself with these things; be wholly in them, that thy progress may be manifest to all.

15

Про це піклуйся, у цім пробувай, щоб у́спіх твій був явний для всіх!

16

Give heed to thyself and to the teaching; continue in them; for, doing this, thou shalt save both thyself and those that hear thee.

16

Уважай на самого себе та на науку, тримайся цього. Бо чи́нячи так, ти спасеш і самого себе, і тих, хто тебе слухає!
