Paul's Greeting to Timothy

Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by God's will, according to promise of life, the [life] which [is] in Christ Jesus,

1

Павло, з волі Божої апо́стол Христа Ісуса, за обі́тницею життя, що в Христі Ісусі,

to Timotheus, [my] beloved child: grace, mercy, peace, from God [the] Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord.

до Тимофія, сина улю́бленого: благода́ть, милість, мир від Бога Отця й Христа Ісуса, Господа нашого!

Encouragement to Be Faithful

I am thankful to God, whom I serve from [my] forefathers with pure conscience, how unceasingly I have the remembrance of thee in my supplications night and day,

Дякую Богові, Якому служу́ від предків чистим сумлінням, що тебе пам'ятаю я за́вжди в молитвах своїх день і ніч.

earnestly desiring to see thee, remembering thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

Я бажаю побачити тебе, пам'ята́ючи сльо́зи твої, щоб напо́внитись радістю.

calling to mind the unfeigned faith which [has been] in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and in thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Я приво́джу на пам'ять собі твою нелицемірну віру, що перше була́ осели́лася в бабі твоїй Лоі́ді та в твоїй матері Евні́кії; певен же я, що й у тобі вона осели́лась.

Patience in Persecution

For which cause I put thee in mind to rekindle the gift of God which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

З цієї причини я нагадую тобі, щоб ти розгрівав Божого дара, який у тобі через покла́дання рук моїх.

For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and of love, and of wise discretion.

Бо не дав нам Бог духа стра́ху, але сили, і любови, і здорового розуму.

Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but suffer evil along with the glad tidings, according to the power of God;

Тож, не соромся засві́дчення Господа нашого, ні мене, Його в'я́зня, але страждай з Єва́нгелією за силою Бога,

9

who has saved us, and has called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to [his] own purpose and grace, which [was] given to us in Christ Jesus before [the] ages of time,

що нас спас і покликав святим по́кликом, — не за наші діла, але з волі Своєї та з благодаті, що нам да́на в Христі Ісусі попе́реду вічних часі́в.

10

but has been made manifest now by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has annulled death, and brought to light life and incorruptibility by the glad tidings;

А тепер об'яви́лась через з'я́влення Спасителя нашого Христа Ісуса, що й смерть зруйнував, і вивів на світло життя та нетління Єва́нгелією.

to which *I* have been appointed a herald and apostle and teacher of [the] nations.

що для неї я був настано́влений за проповідника, апо́стола й учителя.

12

For which cause also I suffer these things; but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep for that day the deposit I have entrusted to him.

З цієї причини й терплю́ я оце, але не соро́млюсь, бо знаю, в Кого я ввірував та впе́внився, що має Він силу заховати на той день заста́ву мою.

Hold to Sound Teaching

Have an outline of sound words, which [words] thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which [are] in Christ Jesus.

Май же за взір здорових слів ті, які від мене почув ти у вірі й любові, що в Христі Ісусі вона.

14

Keep, by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us, the good deposit entrusted.

14

Добро припору́чене стережи Святим Духом, що в нас пробува́є.

15

Thou knowest this, that all who [are] in Asia, of whom is Phygellus and Hermogenes, have turned away from me.

15

Ти знаєш оце, що відверну́лись від мене всі, хто в А́зії, а між ними Фіге́л та Гермоге́н.

16

The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he has often refreshed me, and has not been ashamed of my chain;

16

Хай Госпо́дь подасть милосердя Ониси́форовому дому, бо він часто мене підкріпляв і кайда́нів моїх не соро́мився.

17

but being in Rome sought me out very diligently, and found [me] --

17

А коли він до Риму прибув, шукав мене пильно й знайшов, —

18

the Lord grant to him to find mercy from [the] Lord in that day -- and how much service he rendered in Ephesus *thou* knowest best.

18

хай Госпо́дь йому дасть знайти милість від Господа в день той, — скільки ж він послужив був в Ефе́сі мені, ти ві́даєш краще!
