Darby Bible Translation

English Standard Version

  • Preach the Word

I testify before God and Christ Jesus, who is about to judge living and dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom,
  • Preach the Word

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:
  • proclaim the word; be urgent in season [and] out of season, convict, rebuke, encourage, with all longsuffering and doctrine.
  • preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
  • For the time shall be when they will not bear sound teaching; but according to their own lusts will heap up to themselves teachers, having an itching ear;
  • For the time is coming when people will not endure sounda teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
  • and they will turn away their ear from the truth, and will have turned aside to fables.
  • and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
  • But *thou*, be sober in all things, bear evils, do [the] work of an evangelist, fill up the full measure of thy ministry.
  • As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
  • For *I* am already being poured out, and the time of my release is come.
  • For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.
  • I have combated the good combat, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
  • I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
  • Henceforth the crown of righteousness is laid up for me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will render to me in that day; but not only to me, but also to all who love his appearing.
  • Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

At my first defence no man stood with me, but all deserted me. May it not be imputed to them.

  • But the Lord stood with [me], and gave me power, that through me the proclamation might be fully made, and all [those of] the nations should hear; and I was delivered out of the lion's mouth.
  • But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth.
  • The Lord shall deliver me from every wicked work, and shall preserve [me] for his heavenly kingdom; to whom [be] glory for the ages of ages. Amen.
