Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • A New Heaven and a New Earth

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea exists no more.
  • The New Jerusalem

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone.
  • And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of the heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
  • And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
  • And I heard a loud voice out of the heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he shall tabernacle with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, their God.
  • I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.a
  • And he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall not exist any more, nor grief, nor cry, nor distress shall exist any more, for the former things have passed away.
  • He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
  • And he that sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he says [to me], Write, for these words are true and faithful.
  • And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”
  • And he said to me, It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to him that thirsts of the fountain of the water of life freely.
  • And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega — the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life.
  • He that overcomes shall inherit these things, and I will be to him God, and he shall be to me son.
  • All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.
  • But to the fearful and unbelieving, [and sinners], and those who make themselves abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part [is] in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.
  • “But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars — their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
  • The New Jerusalem

And there came one of the seven angels which had had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues, and spoke with me, saying, Come here, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.
  • Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls containing the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come with me! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”
  • And he carried me away in [the] Spirit, [and set me] on a great and high mountain, and shewed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of the heaven from God,
  • So he took me in the Spiritb to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.
  • having the glory of God. Her shining [was] like a most precious stone, as a crystal-like jasper stone;
  • It shone with the glory of God and sparkled like a precious stone — like jasper as clear as crystal.
  • having a great and high wall; having twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names inscribed, which are those of the twelve tribes of [the] sons of Israel.
  • The city wall was broad and high, with twelve gates guarded by twelve angels. And the names of the twelve tribes of Israel were written on the gates.
  • On [the] east three gates; and on [the] north three gates; and on [the] south three gates; and on [the] west three gates.
  • There were three gates on each side — east, north, south, and west.
  • And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
  • The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were written the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
  • And he that spoke with me had a golden reed [as] a measure, that he might measure the city, and its gates, and its wall.
  • The angel who talked to me held in his hand a gold measuring stick to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.
  • And the city lies four-square, and its length [is] as much as the breadth. And he measured the city with the reed -- twelve thousand stadia: the length and the breadth and height of it are equal.
  • When he measured it, he found it was a square, as wide as it was long. In fact, its length and width and height were each 1,400 miles.c
  • And he measured its wall, a hundred [and] forty-four cubits, [a] man's measure, that is, [the] angel's.
  • Then he measured the walls and found them to be 216 feet thickd (according to the human standard used by the angel).
  • And the building of its wall [was] jasper; and the city pure gold, like pure glass:
  • The wall was made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass.
  • the foundations of the wall of the city [were] adorned with every precious stone: the first foundation, jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald;
  • The wall of the city was built on foundation stones inlaid with twelve precious stones:e the first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,
  • the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprasus; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst.
  • the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.
  • And the twelve gates, twelve pearls; each one of the gates, respectively, was of one pearl; and the street of the city pure gold, as transparent glass.
  • The twelve gates were made of pearls — each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass.
  • And I saw no temple in it; for the Lord God Almighty is its temple, and the Lamb.
  • I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
  • And the city has no need of the sun nor of the moon, that they should shine for it; for the glory of God has enlightened it, and the lamp thereof [is] the Lamb.
  • And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light.
  • And the nations shall walk by its light; and the kings of the earth bring their glory to it.
  • The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory.
  • And its gates shall not be shut at all by day, for night shall not be there.
  • Its gates will never be closed at the end of day because there is no night there.
  • And they shall bring the glory and the honour of the nations to it.
  • And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city.
  • And nothing common, nor that maketh an abomination and a lie, shall at all enter into it; but those only who [are] written in the book of life of the Lamb.
  • Nothing evilf will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty — but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
