І продовжували ізраїльські сини чинити зло перед Господом, і передав їх Господь у руки филистимців на сорок років.
And there was a certain man of Zoreah, of the family of the Danites, and his name was Manoah. And his wife was barren and did not bear.
І був муж із Сарая, з племені Дана, ім’я його — Маной, а жінка його була неплідна і не родила.
And the Angel of Jehovah appeared to the woman, and said to her, Behold now, thou art barren and bearest not; but thou shalt conceive and bear a son.
І з’явився Господній ангел жінці, і промовив до неї: Ось ти неплідна й не народила, та завагітнієш і народиш сина.
And now beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat nothing unclean.
Тепер остерігайся, не пий вина ні п’янкого напою, і не їстимеш нічого нечистого,
For lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son, and no razor shall come on his head; for the boy shall be a Nazarite of God from the womb; and he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.
бо ось ти завагітнієш і народиш сина, і бритва не торкнеться до його голови, бо благословенним назореєм буде перед Богом хлопчина від материнського лона, і він почне спасати Ізраїля з рук филистимців.
And the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of an angel of God, very terrible; but I did not ask him whence he was, neither did he tell me his name.
Жінка пішла і розказала своєму чоловікові, говорячи: Божий чоловік прийшов до мене, а вигляд його, наче вигляд Божого ангела, дуже славний. Я запитала, звідки він, та свого імені він мені не сповістив.
And he said to me, Behold, thou shalt conceive and bear a son; and now drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not anything unclean; for the boy shall be a Nazarite of God from the womb to the day of his death.
Він сказав мені: Ось ти завагітнієш і народиш сина. Тепер же не пий вина та п’янкого напою, і не їж нічого нечистого, бо Божим назореєм буде хлопчина від материнського лона аж до днів його смерті.
Then Manoah prayed to Jehovah, and said, Ah Lord! let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, I pray thee, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.
І Маной помолився до Господа, і сказав: Дай, Господи, щоби прийшов до нас Божий чоловік, якого Ти до нас послав, і щоби просвітив нас, що маємо чинити хлоп’яті, яке народиться.
And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the Angel of God came again to the woman whilst she sat in the field; but Manoah her husband was not with her.
І вислухав Бог голос Маноя, і знову прийшов Божий ангел до його жінки, яка перебувала на полі, а Маноя, її чоловіка, не було з нею.
Then the woman hasted and ran, and informed her husband, and said to him, Behold, the man has appeared to me, that came to me that day.
Жінка поспішила, вибігла і сповістила своєму чоловікові. Вона сказала йому: Ось з’явився мені чоловік, який приходив до мене в той день.
And Manoah rose up and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, Art thou the man that didst speak to the woman? And he said, I am.
Маной піднявся і пішов за своєю жінкою до чоловіка, і сказав йому: Чи ти є той чоловік, який розмовляв з моєю жінкою? І ангел відповів: Я.
And Manoah said, When thy words then come to pass, what shall be the child's manner and his doing?
А Маной запитав: Тепер, коли збудеться твоє слово, який буде суд хлопчини та його діла?
And the Angel of Jehovah said to Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware:
І Господній ангел сказав Маноєві: Усього, що сказав я жінці, він буде стерегтися
she shall not eat of anything that cometh of the vine, neither shall she drink wine or strong drink, nor eat anything unclean: all that I commanded her shall she observe.
і всього, що походить з винограду, не їстиме, і вина та п’янкого напою хай не п’є, і всього нечистого хай не їсть, — усього, що заповів я їй, нехай остерігається.
And Manoah said to the Angel of Jehovah, I pray thee, let us detain thee, and we will make ready a kid of the goats for thee.
І сказав Маной Господньому ангелові: Благаємо тебе, ми приготуємо перед тобою козеня з кіз!
And the Angel of Jehovah said to Manoah, Though thou shouldest detain me, I will not eat of thy bread; and if thou wilt offer a burnt-offering, thou shalt offer it up to Jehovah. For Manoah knew not that he was the Angel of Jehovah.
Та Господній ангел промовив до Маноя: Хоч мене силуєш, я не їстиму твого хліба, а якщо зробиш всепалення, то принесеш його Господу! — бо не знав Маной, що це — Господній ангел.
And Manoah said to the Angel of Jehovah, What is thy name, that when thy word cometh to pass we may do thee honour?
І промовив Маной до Господнього ангела: Яке твоє ім’я, щоб коли збудеться твоє слово, ми тебе прославили?
And the Angel of Jehovah said to him, How is it that thou askest after my name, seeing it is wonderful?
А Господній ангел йому сказав: Навіщо це запитав ти про моє ім’я? Воно є подивугідним.
Then Manoah took the kid and the oblation, and offered it up to Jehovah upon the rock. And he did wondrously, and Manoah and his wife looked on.
Тоді Маной взяв козеня з кіз і жертву і приніс до каменя Господнього — Господу, Який творить подивугідне. І Маной та його жінка дивилися.
And it came to pass, as the flame went up from off the altar towards the heavens, that the Angel of Jehovah ascended in the flame of the altar; and Manoah and his wife looked on, and fell on their faces to the ground.
І сталося, коли полум’я підіймалося над жертовником до неба, то Господній ангел піднявся в полум’ї, а Маной та його жінка гляділи і впали долілиць до землі.
And the Angel of Jehovah appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that it was the Angel of Jehovah.
І не продовжував більше Господній ангел з’являтися Маноєві та його жінці. Тоді Маной пізнав, що це — Господній ангел.
And Manoah said to his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.
І сказав Маной своїй жінці: Ми неодмінно помремо [1] , тому що ми побачили Бога!
But his wife said to him, If Jehovah were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt-offering and an oblation at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would he at this time have told us [such things] as these.
Та його жінка сказала йому: Якщо Господь бажав би вбити нас, то не прийняв би з наших рук всепалення та жертву, і не просвітив би нас цим усім, і не сказав би нам цього.
And the woman bore a son, and called his name Samson. And the child grew, and Jehovah blessed him.
І жінка народила сина, і дала йому ім’я Самсон, і його поблагословив Господь. Хлопчина виріс.
