Samuel's Farewell Address

And Samuel said to all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened to your voice in all that ye said to me, and have made a king over you.

Самуил сказал Израилю:
— Я послушался вас во всем, что вы мне сказали, и поставил над вами царя.

2

And now behold, the king walks before you; and I am old and grey-headed; and behold, my sons are with you; and I have walked before you from my youth up to this day.

Теперь ваш вождь — царь. А я стар и сед, но мои сыновья здесь с вами. Я был вашим вождем с юности до сегодняшнего дня.

3

Here I am: testify against me before Jehovah, and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I injured? or of whose hand have I received any ransom and blinded mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it to you.

Вот я. Свидетельствуйте против меня в присутствии Господа и Его помазанника. Чьего вола я взял? Чьего осла? Кого обманул? Кого притеснял? У кого я брал взятку, чтобы ею закрыть себе глаза?53 Свидетельствуйте против меня , и я верну вам то, что взял.

And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, and thou hast not injured us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man's hand.

— Ты не обманывал и не притеснял нас, — ответили они. — Ты ничего ни у кого не брал.

And he said to them, Jehovah is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand! And [the people] said, [He is] witness!

Самуил сказал им:
— Господь свидетель против вас, и Его помазанник также свидетель сегодня, что вы ничего не нашли за мной.
— Он свидетель, — сказали они.

And Samuel said to the people, [It is] Jehovah who appointed Moses and Aaron, and who brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

Тогда Самуил сказал народу:
— Свидетель Господь, Который избрал Моисея и Аарона и вывел ваших отцов из Египта.

And now stand still, that I may plead with you before Jehovah of all the righteous acts of Jehovah which he did to you and to your fathers.

Итак, встаньте здесь, а я буду судиться с вами перед Господом о всех спасительных делах Господа, которые Он совершил для вас и ваших отцов.

When Jacob had come into Egypt, and your fathers cried to Jehovah, then Jehovah sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought your fathers forth out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.

После того как Иаков пришел в Египет и египтяне стали угнетать его потомков, они воззвали к Господу о помощи, и Господь послал Моисея и Аарона, которые вывели ваших отцов из Египта и поселили здесь.

And they forgot Jehovah their God, and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

Но они забыли Господа, их Бога, и Он отдал их в руки Сисары, начальника войска Хацора,54 и в руки филистимлян, и в руки царя Моава, которые воевали против них.

And they cried to Jehovah and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and have served the Baals and the Ashtoreths; and now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.

Они воззвали к Господу и сказали: «Мы согрешили. Мы оставили Господа и служили Баалам и Астартам. Но теперь спаси нас от врагов, и мы будем служить Тебе».

And Jehovah sent Jerubbaal and Bedan and Jephthah and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies round about, so that ye dwelt in safety.

Тогда Господь послал Еруббаала, Варака,55 Иеффая и Самуила и спас вас от окружавших вас врагов, чтобы вы жили в безопасности.

12

But when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said to me, Nay, but a king shall reign over us; when Jehovah your God was your king.

Но когда вы увидели, что Нахаш, царь аммонитян, двинулся против вас, вы сказали мне: «Нет, мы хотим, чтобы нами правил царь», несмотря на то, что вашим царем был Бог.

13

And now behold, the king whom ye have chosen, whom ye have asked for! and behold, Jehovah has set a king over you.

Итак, вот ваш царь, которого вы выбрали, тот, о ком вы просили. Господь поставил над вами царя.

14

If ye fear Jehovah, and serve him, and hearken to his voice, and rebel not against the commandment of Jehovah, then both ye and the king also that reigns over you shall continue following Jehovah your God.

14

Если вы будете бояться Господа, служить Ему и слушаться Его, не станете бунтовать против Его повелений, и если и вы, и царь, который станет править вами, будете следовать Господу, вашему Богу — прекрасно!

15

But if ye will not hearken to the voice of Jehovah, and if ye rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then will the hand of Jehovah be against you, as against your fathers.

Но если вы не будете слушаться Господа и станете бунтовать против Его повелений, то Его рука будет против вас, как была против ваших отцов.

16

Now therefore stand and see this great thing which Jehovah will do before your eyes.

16

Теперь встаньте и посмотрите на то великое дело, которое Господь совершит у вас на глазах!

17

Is it not wheat-harvest to-day? I will call unto Jehovah, and he will send thunder and rain; and ye shall perceive and see that your wickedness is great which ye have done in the sight of Jehovah in asking for yourselves a king.

Не жатва ли сейчас пшеницы? Но я воззову к Господу, и Он пошлет гром и дождь. Тогда вы поймете, какой грех в глазах Господа вы совершили, когда просили о царе.

18

And Samuel called to Jehovah; and Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day. And all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel.

Самуил воззвал к Господу, и в тот же день Господь послал гром и дождь. Весь народ очень испугался Господа и Самуила.

19

And all the people said to Samuel, Pray to Jehovah thy God for thy servants, that we die not; for we have added to all our sins the wickedness to ask for ourselves a king.

19

Весь народ сказал Самуилу:
— Помолись Господу, твоему Богу, за твоих слуг, чтобы нам не умереть, ведь ко всем нашим прочим грехам мы прибавили еще один, попросив себе царя.

20

And Samuel said to the people, Fear not: *ye* have done all this wickedness; yet turn not aside from following Jehovah, and serve Jehovah with all your heart;

20

— Не бойтесь, — ответил Самуил. — Вы совершили зло, но все-таки не отступайте от Господа, служите Господу от всего сердца.

21

and turn ye not aside; for [it would be] after vain things which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

21

Не уклоняйтесь от Него вслед за никчемными идолами. Они не могут сделать никакого добра и не могут защитить вас, потому что они — ничто.

22

For Jehovah will not cast away his people for his great name's sake; because it has pleased Jehovah to make you his people.

22

Ради Своего великого имени Господь не отвергнет Свой народ, потому что Господу было угодно сделать вас Своим народом.

23

Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Jehovah in ceasing to pray for you; and I will teach you the good and right way.

Что же до меня, то да не согрешу я перед Господом в том, что перестану молиться о вас. Я буду наставлять вас на добрый и правильный путь.

24

Only, fear Jehovah, and serve him in truth, with all your heart; for see how great things he has done for you.

24

Только бойтесь Господа и верно служите Ему от всего сердца. Помните, какие великие дела Он для вас совершил.

25

But if ye do wickedly, ye shall perish, both ye and your king.

25

Но если вы станете и дальше делать зло, то и вы, и ваш царь будете уничтожены.
