Samuel's Farewell Address

And Samuel said to all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened to your voice in all that ye said to me, and have made a king over you.

Самуил сказал всему Израилю: "Я сделал всё, что вы просили. Я поставил над вами царя.

And now behold, the king walks before you; and I am old and grey-headed; and behold, my sons are with you; and I have walked before you from my youth up to this day.

И сейчас у вас есть царь, который ведёт вас. Я состарился и поседел, но сыновья мои с вами. Я вёл вас с юности.

3

Here I am: testify against me before Jehovah, and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I injured? or of whose hand have I received any ransom and blinded mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it to you.

И вот я перед вами. И теперь перед Господом и перед помазанником Его вы должны сказать, что я сделал не так. Взял ли я у кого корову или осла? Обижал ли я кого или обманывал? Брал ли у кого взятки или хоть пару туфель? Скажите мне, и если такое было, то я исправлю сделанное".

And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, and thou hast not injured us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man's hand.

Израильтяне ответили: "Нет! Ты никогда не делал нам ничего плохого. Ты никогда не обижал и не обманывал нас, и не забирал у нас ничего!"

And he said to them, Jehovah is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand! And [the people] said, [He is] witness!

Самуил сказал израильтянам: "Господь и избранный Им царь — свидетели сегодня. Они слышали всё, что вы сказали, и знают, что вы не нашли ничего за мной. " И народ ответил: "Да! Господь свидетель!"

And Samuel said to the people, [It is] Jehovah who appointed Moses and Aaron, and who brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

Тогда Самуил сказал народу: "Господь — свидетель. Господь выбрал Моисея и Аарона. Господь вывел предков ваших из земли Египта.

7

And now stand still, that I may plead with you before Jehovah of all the righteous acts of Jehovah which he did to you and to your fathers.

А теперь стойте здесь, и я расскажу вам о тех благодеяниях, которые Господь сделал для вас и ваших предков.

When Jacob had come into Egypt, and your fathers cried to Jehovah, then Jehovah sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought your fathers forth out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.

Иаков пришёл в Египет, но египтяне сделали жизнь его потомков такой тяжёлой, что они взмолились Господу о помощи. И послал Господь Моисея и Аарона, которые вывели предков ваших из Египта и поселили их на этом месте.

And they forgot Jehovah their God, and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

Но ваши предки забыли Господа, Бога своего. И Господь отдал их в рабство Сисаре, военачальнику Ассорскому, и он отдал их в рабство филистимлянам и царю Моавитскому, которые воевали против них.

10

And they cried to Jehovah and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and have served the Baals and the Ashtoreths; and now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.

Но ваши предки взмолились Господу о помощи и сказали: "Мы согрешили. Мы оставили Господа и служили лжебогам Ваалам и Астартам. Спаси нас теперь от врагов наших, и мы будем служить Тебе".

And Jehovah sent Jerubbaal and Bedan and Jephthah and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies round about, so that ye dwelt in safety.

Тогда Господь послал Иероваала, Барака, Иеффая и Самуила и избавил вас от врагов, окружавших вас, и вы жили в безопасности.

12

But when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said to me, Nay, but a king shall reign over us; when Jehovah your God was your king.

Но увидев, что Наас, царь Аммонитский, идёт против вас, вы сказали мне, что хотите царя, который будет царствовать над вами, хотя Господь, Бог ваш, уже был вашим царём!

13

And now behold, the king whom ye have chosen, whom ye have asked for! and behold, Jehovah has set a king over you.

Итак, вот царь, которого вы выбрали. Господь поставил этого царя над вами.

14

If ye fear Jehovah, and serve him, and hearken to his voice, and rebel not against the commandment of Jehovah, then both ye and the king also that reigns over you shall continue following Jehovah your God.

Вы должны почитать Господа, должны служить и подчиняться Ему. Вы не должны идти против Него. Вы и царь ваш должны следовать за Господом, Богом вашим, и тогда Бог спасёт вас.

15

But if ye will not hearken to the voice of Jehovah, and if ye rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then will the hand of Jehovah be against you, as against your fathers.

А если вы не будете слушать Господа и станете противиться Ему, то и Он будет против вас. Господь уничтожит вас и вашего царя!

16

Now therefore stand and see this great thing which Jehovah will do before your eyes.

Теперь стойте и смотрите на великое дело, которое Господь совершит у вас перед глазами.

17

Is it not wheat-harvest to-day? I will call unto Jehovah, and he will send thunder and rain; and ye shall perceive and see that your wickedness is great which ye have done in the sight of Jehovah in asking for yourselves a king.

Сейчас время жатвы пшеницы. Я буду молиться Господу, чтобы Он послал гром и дождь, и вы узнаете, какой великий грех вы совершили перед Господом, прося себе царя".

And Samuel called to Jehovah; and Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day. And all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel.

Самуил воззвал к Господу, и в тот же день Господь послал гром и дождь, и весь народ устрашился Господа и Самуила.

19

And all the people said to Samuel, Pray to Jehovah thy God for thy servants, that we die not; for we have added to all our sins the wickedness to ask for ourselves a king.

19

Они сказали Самуилу: "Помолись Господу, Богу твоему, за нас, рабов твоих. Не дай нам умереть! Ко всем грехам нашим мы прибавили ещё грех, попросив себе царя".

20

And Samuel said to the people, Fear not: *ye* have done all this wickedness; yet turn not aside from following Jehovah, and serve Jehovah with all your heart;

Самуил ответил народу: "Не бойтесь. Это правда! Вы грешили, но только не отступайте от Господа и служите Господу всем сердцем вашим.

21

and turn ye not aside; for [it would be] after vain things which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

21

Идолы — всего лишь статуи. Они не могут помочь вам! Идолы не помогут вам и не спасут вас, ибо они — ничто!

22

For Jehovah will not cast away his people for his great name's sake; because it has pleased Jehovah to make you his people.

22

Господь же не оставит Своего народа. Господу угодно было избрать вас Своим народом и ради великого имени Своего, Он не оставит вас.

23

Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Jehovah in ceasing to pray for you; and I will teach you the good and right way.

23

И я тоже никогда не перестану молиться о вас. Я не допущу такого греха перед Господом. Я буду продолжать наставлять вас на добрый и правильный путь.

24

Only, fear Jehovah, and serve him in truth, with all your heart; for see how great things he has done for you.

24

Но вы должны почитать Господа и служить Ему искренне, от всего вашего сердца. Помните о великих делах, которые Он сделал для вас!

25

But if ye do wickedly, ye shall perish, both ye and your king.

25

Если же вы упрямы и будете делать зло, то Бог уничтожит и вас, и царя вашего".
