The Ark among the Philistines

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben-ezer to Ashdod.

А филистимці взяли Божий ковчег і з Авенезера внесли його до Азота.

And the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

Филистимці взяли Господній ковчег, внесли його в дім Даґона і поставили його біля Даґона.

And when they of Ashdod arose early the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

Азотійці встали вранці й увійшли в дім Даґона, і вони побачили, як ось Даґон упав долілиць перед Божим ковчегом. І підняли Даґона, і поставили на своє місце. Та Господня рука стала важкою на азотійцях, Він мучив їх і уразив їх на їхніх задніх частинах, — Азот та його околиці.

And when they arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the fish-stump was left to him.

І сталося, коли встали вранці, і ось Даґон упав долілиць перед ковчегом Господнього завіту, а голова Даґона і обидві долоні його рук відділені — кожна перед порогом, і обидві кисті його рук упали на поріг, залишився тільки тулуб Даґона.

Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any that come into Dagon's house tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.

Через це жерці Даґона і кожний, хто входить у дім Даґона, не стають на поріг дому Даґона в Азоті аж до цього дня, а неодмінно переступають [1].

And the hand of Jehovah was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he laid them waste, and smote them with hemorrhoids, -- Ashdod and its borders.

І важкою була Господня рука на Азоті, і Він навів зло на них, і кинулася на них хвороба, у кораблях і посеред їхньої країни розмножилися миші, і було сильне замішання смерті в місті.

And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us; for his hand is severe upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

І мужі Азота побачили, що справи складаються таким чином, і кажуть: Не залишиться з нами ковчег Бога Ізраїля, бо Його рука важка на нас і на нашому богові Даґоні.

And they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they said, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about to Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about [thither].

І вони посилають, і збирають до себе сатрапів филистимців, і кажуть: Що зробимо з ковчегом Бога Ізраїля? А ґеттейці кажуть: Нехай до нас перейде Божий ковчег! І Божий ковчег перейшов до Ґетти.

And it came to pass that, after they had carried it about, the hand of Jehovah was against the city with very great panic; and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and hemorrhoids broke out upon them.

І сталося після того, як він перейшов, то Господня рука була на тому місті, почалося дуже велике замішання, і Він уразив чоловіків міста, від малого аж до великого, і уразив їх на задніх їхніх частинах, тож ґеттейці поробили собі сидіння,

And they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, when the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to kill us and our people.

а Божий ковчег вони відіслали до Аскалона. І сталося, коли прибув Божий ковчег до Аскалона, то аскалонці закричали, вигукуючи: Навіщо ви скерували ковчег Бога Ізраїля до нас, щоб убити нас і наш народ?

And they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to its own place, that it kill us not, and our people. For there was deadly alarm throughout the city: the hand of God was very heavy there;

І вони відіслали ковчег, і збирали сатрапів филистимців, говорячи: Відішліть ковчег Бога Ізраїля, нехай буде на своєму місці й нехай не знищує нас і наш народ! Адже в цілому місті було дуже тяжке замішання смерті, коли сюди прибув ковчег Бога Ізраїля,

and the men that died not were smitten with the hemorrhoids; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

і живі (не померлі) були уражені в задні частини, і крик міста піднявся до неба!
