Israel Demands a King

And it came to pass when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.

1

Когда Самуил состарился, то поставил сыновей своих судьями над Израилем.

And the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abijah; they judged in Beer-sheba.

Старшего сына звали Иоиль, а второго сына звали Авия. Они были судьями в Вирсавии.

And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted justice.

Но сыновья Самуила жили не так, как жил их отец. Они брали взятки, тайно брали деньги и меняли свои решения в суде.

Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel to Ramah,

Тогда собрались все старейшины Израиля и пришли к Самуилу в Раму.

and said to him, Behold, thou art become old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now appoint us a king to judge us, like all the nations.

Они сказали Самуилу: "Ты состарился, а сыновья твои не живут праведно, как ты. Поставь над нами царя, чтобы он правил нами, как принято у других народов".

And the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed to Jehovah.

Самуилу не понравилось, когда старейшины попросили у него царя, чтобы тот правил над ними. Тогда Самуил стал молиться Господу,

And Jehovah said to Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

и Господь ответил ему: "Делай то, что говорит тебе народ. Они отвергли не тебя. Они отвергли Меня! Они не хотят, чтобы Я царствовал над ними!

According to all the deeds that they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, in that they have forsaken me and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

Они поступают так, как поступали всегда. Я вывел их из Египта, но они оставили Меня и служили другим богам. Так поступают они и с тобой.

And now hearken unto their voice; only, testify solemnly unto them, and declare unto them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

Послушай их голоса и сделай так, как они говорят. Только предупреди их и расскажи им о власти и о правах царя, который будет править ими".

Samuel's Warning About Kings

And Samuel spoke all the words of Jehovah to the people that asked of him a king.

И пересказал Самуил все слова Господа народу, который просил у него царя.

And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, on his chariot and among his horsemen, and they shall run before his chariots;

11

Он сказал: "Вот, что будет делать царь, который будет царствовать над вами: он заберёт ваших сыновей и заставит их служить себе. Он приставит их к своим колесницам и сделает их всадниками в своей армии, и они будут бежать перед его колесницами.

12

and [he will take them] that he may appoint for himself captains over thousands, and captains over fifties, and that they may plough his ground, and reap his harvest, and make his instruments of war and instruments of his chariots.

Некоторых он сделает начальниками над тысячью воинов, а некоторых над пятьюдесятью. Царь заставит одних возделывать для него поля и собирать урожай, а других делать воинское оружие и части к своим колесницам.

And he will take your daughters for perfumers, and cooks, and bakers.

And your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, the best, will he take and give to his servants.

Царь заберёт у вас лучшие поля, виноградники и оливковые сады и отдаст их своим слугам.

And he will take the tenth of your seed and of your vineyards, and give to his chamberlains and to his servants.

Он заберёт десятую часть от ваших оливковых садов и виноградников и отдаст своим слугам.

And he will take your bondmen, and your bondwomen, and your comeliest young men, and your asses, and use them for his work.

Царь заберёт рабов и рабынь ваших, ваших лучших юношей и ваших ослов и использует их для своих дел.

He will take the tenth of your sheep. And ye shall be his servants.

17

Он заберёт десятую часть вашего мелкого скота, — и сами вы станете ему рабами.

18

And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king whom ye have chosen; and Jehovah will not answer you in that day.

Вы будете рыдать от царя, которого избрали, но Господь не ответит вам тогда".

God Grants the Request

And the people refused to hearken to the voice of Samuel; and they said, No, but there shall be a king over us,

Но народ не захотел слушать Самуила. Они сказали: "Нет! Мы хотим царя, который будет царствовать над нами.

20

that we also may be like all the nations; and our king shall judge us, and go out before us, and conduct our wars.

20

Тогда мы будем, как прочие народы. Наш царь будет судить нас и вести нас в сражениях".

21

And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he repeated them in the ears of Jehovah.

21

Самуил выслушал все слова народа и пересказал их Господу.

22

And Jehovah said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said to the men of Israel, Go ye every man to his city.

22

И Господь ответил: "Ты должен послушать их! Поставь им царя". Тогда Самуил сказал народу Израиля: "Хорошо! Будет вам новый царь. А сейчас возвращайтесь домой".
