Uzziah Reigns in Judah

And all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.

І взяв увесь Юдин народ Уззійю, — а він був шістнадцяти літ, — і настанови́ли його царем замість батька його Амації.

He built Eloth and restored it to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers.

Він збудував Елота, і вернув його Юді, як цар спочив зо своїми батьками.

Uzziah was sixteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.

Уззійя був віку шістнадцяти літ, коли він зацарював, а п'ятдеся́т і два роки царював в Єрусалимі. А ім'я́ його матері — Єхолія, з Єрусалиму.

And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.

І робив він угодне в Господніх оча́х, усе, що́ робив батько його Амація.

He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God, and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper.

І став він звертатися до Бога за днів Заха́рія, що розумів Божі виді́ння. А за днів, коли він звертався до Господа, Бог давав йому у́спіх.

He went out and made war against the Philistines and broke through the wall of Gath and the wall of Jabneh and the wall of Ashdod, and he built cities in the territory of Ashdod and elsewhere among the Philistines.

І він вийшов, і воював із филисти́млянами, і поруйнував мур міста Ґату, і мур Явне, і мур Асдоду, і побудував міста́ в Асдоді та в филисти́млян.

God helped him against the Philistines and against the Arabians who lived in Gurbaal and against the Meunites.

І допоміг йому Бог над филисти́млянами, і над арабами, що живуть у Ґур-Баалі, та над мецнітами.

The Ammonites paid tribute to Uzziah, and his fame spread even to the border of Egypt, for he became very strong.

І давали аммоні́тяни дани́ну для Уззійї, а ім'я́ його проне́слося аж туди, де йдеться до Єгипту, бо він сильно зміцни́вся.

Moreover, Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate and at the Valley Gate and at the Angle, and fortified them.

І збудував Уззійя башту в Єрусалимі над брамою Пінна, і над брамою Ґай, і над Мікцоа, і позмі́цнював їх.

And he built towers in the wilderness and cut out many cisterns, for he had large herds, both in the Shephelah and in the plain, and he had farmers and vinedressers in the hills and in the fertile lands, for he loved the soil.

І побудував він ба́шти в пустині, і повисі́кував багато ям для води, бо мав великі че́реди і на долині, і на рівни́ні, рільників, і виноградарів у гора́х, і садки́, бо він любив хліборо́бство.

Moreover, Uzziah had an army of soldiers, fit for war, in divisions according to the numbers in the muster made by Jeiel the secretary and Maaseiah the officer, under the direction of Hananiah, one of the king’s commanders.

І було́ в Уззійї ві́йсько, що прова́дило війну, яке вихо́дило на війну відділом за числом їхнього пере́ліку через писаря Єіїла та урядника Маасею, під рукою Хананії з царе́вих зверхників.

The whole number of the heads of fathers’ houses of mighty men of valor was 2,600.

Усе число голів ба́тьківських родів, хоробрих воякі́в, дві тисячі й шість сотень.

Under their command was an army of 307,500, who could make war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.

А при них ві́йська, — три сотні тисяч і сім тисяч і п'ять сотень тих, що провадять війну великою силою, щоб допомагати царе́ві на ворога.

And Uzziah prepared for all the army shields, spears, helmets, coats of mail, bows, and stones for slinging.

І нагото́вив для них Уззійя для всього ві́йська щити́ малі́ й ра́тища, і шоло́ми, і па́нцери, і лу́ки, і пра́щного камі́ння.

15

In Jerusalem he made machines, invented by skillful men, to be on the towers and the corners, to shoot arrows and great stones. And his fame spread far, for he was marvelously helped, till he was strong.

І наробив він в Єрусалимі військо́вих маши́н, майстерно приду́маних, щоб були́ вони на баштах і на ро́гах на стріля́ння стрі́лами та великим камінням. І проне́слося ім'я́ його аж надто дале́ко, бо він дивно зробив, щоб допомогти собі, так що став си́льним.

Uzziah’s Pride and Punishment

But when he was strong, he grew proud, to his destruction. For he was unfaithful to the Lord his God and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.

А як він зміцні́в, запиша́лося його серце аж до зіпсуття́, і він спроневі́рився Господе́ві, Богові своєму. І ввійшов він до храму Господнього, щоб кадити на кади́льному же́ртівнику.

But Azariah the priest went in after him, with eighty priests of the Lord who were men of valor,

А за ним пішов священик Азарія, а з ним Господні священики, вісімдеся́т хоробрих мужів.

18

and they withstood King Uzziah and said to him, “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary, for you have done wrong, and it will bring you no honor from the Lord God.”

І стали вони проти царя Уззійї та й сказали йому: „Не тобі, Уззійє, кадити для Господа, а священикам, синам Аароновим, посвяченим на кадіння... Вийди зо святині, бо ти спроневі́рився, і не за честь це бу́де тобі від Господа Бога!“

19

Then Uzziah was angry. Now he had a censer in his hand to burn incense, and when he became angry with the priests, leprosya broke out on his forehead in the presence of the priests in the house of the Lord, by the altar of incense.

І розгнівався Уззійя, — а в руці його була кади́льниця на каді́ння. А коли він розгнівався на священиків, то на чолі́ його показа́лася прока́за, перед священиками в Господньому домі, при кади́льному же́ртівнику...

20

And Azariah the chief priest and all the priests looked at him, and behold, he was leprous in his forehead! And they rushed him out quickly, and he himself hurried to go out, because the Lord had struck him.

І глянув на нього первосвященик Азарія та всі священики, аж ось він прокаже́ний на чолі́ своїм! І вони поспішно ви́гнали його звідти, та й сам він поспішив вийти, бо вра́зив його Госпо́дь!

21

And King Uzziah was a leper to the day of his death, and being a leper lived in a separate house, for he was excluded from the house of the Lord. And Jotham his son was over the king’s household, governing the people of the land.

І був цар Уззійя прокаже́ний аж до дня своєї смерти, і сидів в осібному домі прокаже́ний, бо був ви́лучений від Господнього дому. А над царськи́м домом був син його Йотам, — він судив наро́д Кра́ю.

Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, from first to last, Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz wrote.

А решту діл Уззійї, перші й останні, описав пророк Ісая, син Амосів.

And Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the burial field that belonged to the kings, for they said, “He is a leper.” And Jotham his son reigned in his place.

І спочив Уззійя з своїми батька́ми, і поховали його з батьками його на погребовому царсько́му полі, бо сказали: „Він прокаже́ний“. А замість нього зацарював син його Йота́м.
