  • Solomon Builds the Temple

    Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lorda had appeared to David his father, at the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
  • Temple Construction Begins

    And Solomon began to build the house of Jehovah at Jerusalem on mount Moriah, where he appeared to David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
  • He began to build in the second month of the fourth year of his reign.
  • And he began to build on the second of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.
  • These are Solomon’s measurementsb for building the house of God: the length, in cubitsc of the old standard, was sixty cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.
  • Dimensions and Materials

    And this was Solomon's foundation for the construction of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was sixty cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.
  • The vestibule in front of the nave of the house was twenty cubits long, equal to the width of the house,d and its height was 120 cubits. He overlaid it on the inside with pure gold.
  • And the porch which was in front was twenty cubits in length, in front of the house broadways, and the height was a hundred and twenty; and he overlaid it within with pure gold.
  • The nave he lined with cypress and covered it with fine gold and made palms and chains on it.
  • And the greater house he boarded with cypress-wood, which he overlaid with fine gold, and set on it palm-trees and chains.
  • He adorned the house with settings of precious stones. The gold was gold of Parvaim.
  • And he overlaid the house with precious stones for beauty; and the gold was gold of Parvaim.
  • So he lined the house with gold — its beams, its thresholds, its walls, and its doors — and he carved cherubim on the walls.
  • And he covered the house, the beams, the threshold, and its walls, and its doors with gold, and engraved cherubim on the walls.
  • And he made the Most Holy Place. Its length, corresponding to the breadth of the house, was twenty cubits, and its breadth was twenty cubits. He overlaid it with 600 talentse of fine gold.
  • And he made the house of the most holy place, the length of which was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and its breadth twenty cubits; and he covered it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.
  • The weight of gold for the nails was fifty shekels.f And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold.
  • And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. And he covered the upper chambers with gold.
  • In the Most Holy Place he made two cherubim of woodg and overlaidh them with gold.
  • And in the house of the most holy place he made two cherubim of image work, and they overlaid them with gold.
  • The wings of the cherubim together extended twenty cubits: one wing of the one, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house, and its other wing, of five cubits, touched the wing of the other cherub;
  • The Cherubim

    And the wings of the cherubim were twenty cubits long: one wing of five cubits touched the wall of the house; and the other wing of five cubits touched the wing of the other cherub.
  • and of this cherub, one wing, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house, and the other wing, also of five cubits, was joined to the wing of the first cherub.
  • And the wing of the other cherub of five cubits touched the wall of the house; and the other wing was five cubits joining the wing of the other cherub.
  • The wings of these cherubim extended twenty cubits. The cherubimi stood on their feet, facing the nave.
  • The wings of these cherubim spread forth were twenty cubits; and they stood on their feet, and their faces were toward the house.
  • And he made the veil of blue and purple and crimson fabrics and fine linen, and he worked cherubim on it.
  • The Veil and Pillars

    And he made the veil of blue, and purple, and crimson, and byssus, and made cherubim upon it.
  • In front of the house he made two pillars thirty-five cubits high, with a capital of five cubits on the top of each.
  • And before the house he made two pillars thirty-five cubits long; and the capital that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.
  • He made chains like a necklacej and put them on the tops of the pillars, and he made a hundred pomegranates and put them on the chains.
  • And he made chains [as] in the oracle, and he put them on the top of the pillars; and he made a hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.
  • He set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the south, the other on the north; that on the south he called Jachin, and that on the north Boaz.
  • And he set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the right hand and the other on the left; and he called the name of that on the right Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.
