Job Replies: The Lord Has Done This

Then Job answered and said:

1

А Йов, підхопивши, сказав:

“No doubt you are the people,
and wisdom will die with you.

2

Ви ще є людьми. Хіба з вами закінчиться мудрість?

3

But I have understanding as well as you;
I am not inferior to you.
Who does not know such things as these?

І в мене є серце, як і у вас.

4

I am a laughingstock to my friends;
I, who called to God and he answered me,
a just and blameless man, am a laughingstock.

Адже праведний і непорочний муж став посміховиськом.

5

In the thought of one who is at ease there is contempt for misfortune;
it is ready for those whose feet slip.

Бо у виміряний час приготовлено йому впасти під інших, а його домам бути пограбованими беззаконними.

The tents of robbers are at peace,
and those who provoke God are secure,
who bring their god in their hand.a

Але хтось, будучи лихим, хай не надіється бути невинним, — ті, хто викликає гнів Господа, наче їм і суду не буде!

“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;

Але запитай чотириногих, хіба не розкажуть тобі, і небесних птахів, чи не сповістять тобі?

or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;b
and the fish of the sea will declare to you.

Розкажи землі, хіба не пояснить тобі, і чи не підкажуть тобі морські риби?

Who among all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?

Хто не пізнав у цьому всьому, що Господня рука вчинила це?

In his hand is the life of every living thing
and the breath of all mankind.

Хіба не в Його руці душа всіх, хто живе, — душа кожної людини?

Does not the ear test words
as the palate tastes food?

Адже розум розсуджує слова, а гортань визначає смак їжі.

Wisdom is with the aged,
and understanding in length of days.

12

У довгому часі мудрість, а в довгому житті — знання.

“With Godc are wisdom and might;
he has counsel and understanding.

У Нього — мудрість і сила, у Нього — порада і розум.

14

If he tears down, none can rebuild;
if he shuts a man in, none can open.

Якщо Він скине, хто збудує? Якщо замкне проти людей, хто відкриє?

15

If he withholds the waters, they dry up;
if he sends them out, they overwhelm the land.

15

Якщо заборонить воді, то висушить землю. Якщо ж попустить, то знищить її, перекинувши.

16

With him are strength and sound wisdom;
the deceived and the deceiver are his.

16

У Нього — сила і міць, у Нього — пізнання і розум.

17

He leads counselors away stripped,
and judges he makes fools.

Він веде радників полоненими, а суддів землі зробив несамовитими.

18

He looses the bonds of kings
and binds a waistcloth on their hips.

Він наставляє царів на престоли і підперізує їхні стегна поясом.

19

He leads priests away stripped
and overthrows the mighty.

19

Він відсилає священиків полоненими, а сильних землі повалив.

20

He deprives of speech those who are trusted
and takes away the discernment of the elders.

Він міняє уста вірних, і осягнув розум старійшин.

21

He pours contempt on princes
and loosens the belt of the strong.

Він виливає безчестя на володарів, а покірних оздоровив.

22

He uncovers the deeps out of darkness
and brings deep darkness to light.

Він відкриває глибини від темряви і виводить на світло тінь смерті.

23

He makes nations great, and he destroys them;
he enlarges nations, and leads them away.

Він призводить до блукання народи і нищить їх, поборює народи і веде їх.

24

He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth
and makes them wander in a trackless waste.

24

Він міняє серця володарів землі, приводить їх блукати дорогою, якої вони не знали.

25

They grope in the dark without light,
and he makes them stagger like a drunken man.

25

Хай дошукуються в темряві, і не буде світла, хай же блукають, наче п’яні!
