New Living Translation

  • O Lord My God, You Are Very Great

    Bless the Lord, O my soul!
    O Lord my God, you are very great!
    You are clothed with splendor and majesty,
  • Let all that I am praise the LORD.
    O LORD my God, how great you are!
    You are robed with honor and majesty.
  • covering yourself with light as with a garment,
    stretching out the heavens like a tent.
  • You are dressed in a robe of light.
    You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens;
  • He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters;
    he makes the clouds his chariot;
    he rides on the wings of the wind;
  • you lay out the rafters of your home in the rain clouds.
    You make the clouds your chariot;
    you ride upon the wings of the wind.
  • he makes his messengers winds,
    his ministers a flaming fire.
  • The winds are your messengers;
    flames of fire are your servants.a
  • He set the earth on its foundations,
    so that it should never be moved.
  • You placed the world on its foundation
    so it would never be moved.
  • You covered it with the deep as with a garment;
    the waters stood above the mountains.
  • You clothed the earth with floods of water,
    water that covered even the mountains.
  • At your rebuke they fled;
    at the sound of your thunder they took to flight.
  • At your command, the water fled;
    at the sound of your thunder, it hurried away.
  • The mountains rose, the valleys sank down
    to the place that you appointed for them.
  • Mountains rose and valleys sank
    to the levels you decreed.
  • You set a boundary that they may not pass,
    so that they might not again cover the earth.
  • Then you set a firm boundary for the seas,
    so they would never again cover the earth.
  • You make springs gush forth in the valleys;
    they flow between the hills;
  • You make springs pour water into the ravines,
    so streams gush down from the mountains.
  • they give drink to every beast of the field;
    the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
  • They provide water for all the animals,
    and the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
  • Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell;
    they sing among the branches.
  • The birds nest beside the streams
    and sing among the branches of the trees.
  • From your lofty abode you water the mountains;
    the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.
  • You send rain on the mountains from your heavenly home,
    and you fill the earth with the fruit of your labor.
  • You cause the grass to grow for the livestock
    and plants for man to cultivate,
    that he may bring forth food from the earth
  • You cause grass to grow for the livestock
    and plants for people to use.
    You allow them to produce food from the earth —
  • and wine to gladden the heart of man,
    oil to make his face shine
    and bread to strengthen man’s heart.
  • wine to make them glad,
    olive oil to soothe their skin,
    and bread to give them strength.
  • The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly,
    the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
  • The trees of the LORD are well cared for —
    the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
  • In them the birds build their nests;
    the stork has her home in the fir trees.
  • There the birds make their nests,
    and the storks make their homes in the cypresses.
  • The high mountains are for the wild goats;
    the rocks are a refuge for the rock badgers.
  • High in the mountains live the wild goats,
    and the rocks form a refuge for the hyraxes.b
  • He made the moon to mark the seasons;a
    the sun knows its time for setting.
  • You made the moon to mark the seasons,
    and the sun knows when to set.
  • You make darkness, and it is night,
    when all the beasts of the forest creep about.
  • You send the darkness, and it becomes night,
    when all the forest animals prowl about.
  • The young lions roar for their prey,
    seeking their food from God.
  • Then the young lions roar for their prey,
    stalking the food provided by God.
  • When the sun rises, they steal away
    and lie down in their dens.
  • At dawn they slink back
    into their dens to rest.
  • Man goes out to his work
    and to his labor until the evening.
  • Then people go off to their work,
    where they labor until evening.
  • O Lord, how manifold are your works!
    In wisdom have you made them all;
    the earth is full of your creatures.
  • O LORD, what a variety of things you have made!
    In wisdom you have made them all.
    The earth is full of your creatures.
  • Here is the sea, great and wide,
    which teems with creatures innumerable,
    living things both small and great.
  • Here is the ocean, vast and wide,
    teeming with life of every kind,
    both large and small.
  • There go the ships,
    and Leviathan, which you formed to play in it.b
  • See the ships sailing along,
    and Leviathan,c which you made to play in the sea.
  • These all look to you,
    to give them their food in due season.
  • They all depend on you
    to give them food as they need it.
  • When you give it to them, they gather it up;
    when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
  • When you supply it, they gather it.
    You open your hand to feed them,
    and they are richly satisfied.
  • When you hide your face, they are dismayed;
    when you take away their breath, they die
    and return to their dust.
  • But if you turn away from them, they panic.
    When you take away their breath,
    they die and turn again to dust.
  • When you send forth your Spirit,c they are created,
    and you renew the face of the ground.
  • When you give them your breath,d life is created,
    and you renew the face of the earth.
  • May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
    may the Lord rejoice in his works,
  • May the glory of the LORD continue forever!
    The LORD takes pleasure in all he has made!
  • who looks on the earth and it trembles,
    who touches the mountains and they smoke!
  • The earth trembles at his glance;
    the mountains smoke at his touch.
  • I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
    I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
  • I will sing to the LORD as long as I live.
    I will praise my God to my last breath!
  • May my meditation be pleasing to him,
    for I rejoice in the Lord.
  • May all my thoughts be pleasing to him,
    for I rejoice in the LORD.
  • Let sinners be consumed from the earth,
    and let the wicked be no more!
    Bless the Lord, O my soul!
    Praise the Lord!
  • Let all sinners vanish from the face of the earth;
    let the wicked disappear forever.
    Let all that I am praise the LORD.
    Praise the LORD!
