  • Let the Redeemed of the Lord Say So

    Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
    for his steadfast love endures forever!
  • Thanksgiving to the Lord for His Great Works of Deliverance

    Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
    For His [a]mercy endures forever.
  • Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
    whom he has redeemed from troublea
  • Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
    Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,
  • and gathered in from the lands,
    from the east and from the west,
    from the north and from the south.
  • And gathered out of the lands,
    From the east and from the west,
    From the north and from the south.
  • Some wandered in desert wastes,
    finding no way to a city to dwell in;
  • They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way;
    They found no city to dwell in.
  • hungry and thirsty,
    their soul fainted within them.
  • Hungry and thirsty,
    Their soul fainted in them.
  • Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
  • Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
    And He delivered them out of their distresses.
  • He led them by a straight way
    till they reached a city to dwell in.
  • And He led them forth by the right way,
    That they might go to a city for a dwelling place.
  • Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
  • Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
    And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
  • For he satisfies the longing soul,
    and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
  • For He satisfies the longing soul,
    And fills the hungry soul with goodness.
  • Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
    prisoners in affliction and in irons,
  • Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
    Bound[b] in affliction and irons —
  • for they had rebelled against the words of God,
    and spurned the counsel of the Most High.
  • Because they rebelled against the words of God,
    And [c]despised the counsel of the Most High,
  • So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor;
    they fell down, with none to help.
  • Therefore He brought down their heart with labor;
    They fell down, and there was none to help.
  • Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
  • Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
    And He saved them out of their distresses.
  • He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
    and burst their bonds apart.
  • He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
    And broke their chains in pieces.
  • Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
  • Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
    And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
  • For he shatters the doors of bronze
    and cuts in two the bars of iron.
  • For He has broken the gates of bronze,
    And cut the bars of iron in two.
  • Some were fools through their sinful ways,
    and because of their iniquities suffered affliction;
  • Fools, because of their transgression,
    And because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
  • they loathed any kind of food,
    and they drew near to the gates of death.
  • Their soul abhorred all manner of food,
    And they drew near to the gates of death.
  • Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
  • Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
    And He saved them out of their distresses.
  • He sent out his word and healed them,
    and delivered them from their destruction.
  • He sent His word and healed them,
    And delivered them from their destructions.
  • Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
  • Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
    And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
  • And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving,
    and tell of his deeds in songs of joy!
  • Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving,
    And declare His works with [d]rejoicing.
  • Some went down to the sea in ships,
    doing business on the great waters;
  • Those who go down to the sea in ships,
    Who do business on great waters,
  • they saw the deeds of the Lord,
    his wondrous works in the deep.
  • They see the works of the Lord,
    And His wonders in the deep.
  • For he commanded and raised the stormy wind,
    which lifted up the waves of the sea.
  • For He commands and raises the stormy wind,
    Which lifts up the waves of the sea.
  • They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths;
    their courage melted away in their evil plight;
  • They mount up to the heavens,
    They go down again to the depths;
    Their soul melts because of trouble.
  • they reeled and staggered like drunken men
    and were at their wits’ end.b
  • They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,
    And [e]are at their wits’ end.
  • Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
  • Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble,
    And He brings them out of their distresses.
  • He made the storm be still,
    and the waves of the sea were hushed.
  • He calms the storm,
    So that its waves are still.
  • Then they were glad that the watersc were quiet,
    and he brought them to their desired haven.
  • Then they are glad because they are quiet;
    So He guides them to their desired haven.
  • Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
  • Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
    And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
  • Let them extol him in the congregation of the people,
    and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
  • Let them exalt Him also in the assembly of the people,
    And praise Him in the company of the elders.
  • He turns rivers into a desert,
    springs of water into thirsty ground,
  • He turns rivers into a wilderness,
    And the watersprings into dry ground;
  • a fruitful land into a salty waste,
    because of the evil of its inhabitants.
  • A fruitful land into [f]barrenness,
    For the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
  • He turns a desert into pools of water,
    a parched land into springs of water.
  • He turns a wilderness into pools of water,
    And dry land into watersprings.
  • And there he lets the hungry dwell,
    and they establish a city to live in;
  • There He makes the hungry dwell,
    That they may establish a city for a dwelling place,
  • they sow fields and plant vineyards
    and get a fruitful yield.
  • And sow fields and plant vineyards,
    That they may yield a fruitful harvest.
  • By his blessing they multiply greatly,
    and he does not let their livestock diminish.
  • He also blesses them, and they multiply greatly;
    And He does not let their cattle decrease.
  • When they are diminished and brought low
    through oppression, evil, and sorrow,
  • When they are diminished and brought low
    Through oppression, affliction, and sorrow,
  • he pours contempt on princes
    and makes them wander in trackless wastes;
  • He pours contempt on princes,
    And causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way;
  • but he raises up the needy out of affliction
    and makes their families like flocks.
  • Yet He sets the poor on high, far from affliction,
    And makes their families like a flock.
  • The upright see it and are glad,
    and all wickedness shuts its mouth.
  • The righteous see it and rejoice,
    And all iniquity stops its mouth.
  • Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things;
    let them consider the steadfast love of the Lord.
  • Whoever is wise will observe these things,
    And they will understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.
