New King James Version

  • You Are My Refuge

    A Maskila of David, when he was in the cave. A Prayer.

    With my voice I cry out to the Lord;
    with my voice I plead for mercy to the Lord.
  • A Plea for Relief from Persecutors

    A Contemplation[a] of David. A Prayer when he was in the cave.

    I cry out to the Lord with my voice;
    With my voice to the Lord I make my supplication.
  • I pour out my complaint before him;
    I tell my trouble before him.
  • I pour out my complaint before Him;
    I declare before Him my trouble.
  • When my spirit faints within me,
    you know my way!
    In the path where I walk
    they have hidden a trap for me.
  • When my spirit [b]was overwhelmed within me,
    Then You knew my path.
    In the way in which I walk
    They have secretly set a snare for me.
  • Look to the right and see:
    there is none who takes notice of me;
    no refuge remains to me;
    no one cares for my soul.
  • Look on my right hand and see,
    For there is no one who acknowledges me;
    Refuge has failed me;
    No one cares for my soul.
  • I cry to you, O Lord;
    I say, “You are my refuge,
    my portion in the land of the living.”
  • I cried out to You, O Lord:
    I said, “You are my refuge,
    My portion in the land of the living.
  • Attend to my cry,
    for I am brought very low!
    Deliver me from my persecutors,
    for they are too strong for me!
  • [c]Attend to my cry,
    For I am brought very low;
    Deliver me from my persecutors,
    For they are stronger than I.
  • Bring me out of prison,
    that I may give thanks to your name!
    The righteous will surround me,
    for you will deal bountifully with me.
  • Bring my soul out of prison,
    That I may praise Your name;
    The righteous shall surround me,
    For You shall deal bountifully with me.”
