New Living Translation

  • Blessed Are the Forgiven

    A Maskila of David.

    Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,
    whose sin is covered.
  • A psalma of David.

    Oh, what joy for those
    whose disobedience is forgiven,
    whose sin is put out of sight!
  • Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity,
    and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
  • Yes, what joy for those
    whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt,b
    whose lives are lived in complete honesty!
  • For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away
    through my groaning all day long.
  • When I refused to confess my sin,
    my body wasted away,
    and I groaned all day long.
  • For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
    my strength was dried upb as by the heat of summer. Selah
  • Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me.
    My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.
    Interlude
  • I acknowledged my sin to you,
    and I did not cover my iniquity;
    I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
    and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah
  • Finally, I confessed all my sins to you
    and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
    I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.”
    And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
    Interlude
  • Therefore let everyone who is godly
    offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found;
    surely in the rush of great waters,
    they shall not reach him.
  • Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time,
    that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.
  • You are a hiding place for me;
    you preserve me from trouble;
    you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah
  • For you are my hiding place;
    you protect me from trouble.
    You surround me with songs of victory.
    Interlude
  • I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
  • The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
    I will advise you and watch over you.
  • Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding,
    which must be curbed with bit and bridle,
    or it will not stay near you.
  • Do not be like a senseless horse or mule
    that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”
  • Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
    but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.
  • Many sorrows come to the wicked,
    but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the LORD.
  • Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous,
    and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
  • So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him!
    Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!
