Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

My son, do not forget my teaching,
but let your heart keep my commandments,

for length of days and years of life
and peace they will add to you.

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.

So you will find favor and good successa
in the sight of God and man.

Думай про те, що добре перед Господом та людьми.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.

Усім серцем надійся на Бога, а не підносься своєю мудрістю.

In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

На всіх своїх дорогах пізнавай її, щоб вона випростовувала твої дороги, і нога твоя не спіткнулася.

Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.

Не будь мудрим сам перед собою, та бійся Бога і ухиляйся від усякого зла.

It will be healing to your fleshb
and refreshmentc to your bones.

Тоді прийде оздоровлення для твого тіла й піклування про твої кістки.

Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your produce;

Вшановуй Господа своєю сумлінною працею і принеси Йому найперше зі своїх плодів праведності,

10

then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine.

щоб твої комори наповнилися вщерть пшеницею, а твої чавила давали в надмірі вино.

11

My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline
or be weary of his reproof,

Сину, Господнім покаранням не нехтуй і не слабни, коли Ним покараний.

12

for the Lord reproves him whom he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights.

Бо кого Господь любить, того повчає, і карає кожного сина, якого приймає.

Blessed Is the One Who Finds Wisdom

Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,
and the one who gets understanding,

Блаженна людина, яка осягнула мудрість, і смертний, який пізнав розуміння.

14

for the gain from her is better than gain from silver
and her profit better than gold.

Адже краще її набувати, ніж золоті чи срібні скарби.

15

She is more precious than jewels,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.

Вона дорожча за коштовні камені, не встоїть проти неї ніщо погане. Вона є добре відомою всім, хто наближається до неї; усі цінності не варті її.

16

Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.

Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.

She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;
those who hold her fast are called blessed.

The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
by understanding he established the heavens;

by his knowledge the deeps broke open,
and the clouds drop down the dew.

Знанням розкрилися безодні, і хмари кроплять росами.

21

My son, do not lose sight of these —
keep sound wisdom and discretion,

Сину, не проходь мимо, а дотримуйся моєї поради й думки,

and they will be life for your soul
and adornment for your neck.

Then you will walk on your way securely,
and your foot will not stumble.

If you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

Як будеш сидіти, — не матимеш страху, коли заснеш, — то матимеш солодкий сон.

Do not be afraid of sudden terror
or of the ruind of the wicked, when it comes,

Ти не боятимешся ні страху, коли він наблизиться, ні навали нападаючих безбожників.

for the Lord will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from being caught.

Адже Господь буде на всіх твоїх дорогах і зміцнить твою ногу, щоб ти не похитнувся.

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,e
when it is in your power to do it.

Не переставай чинити добро тому, хто потребує його, коли рука твоя буде спроможна допомагати.

28

Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again,
tomorrow I will give it” — when you have it with you.

Коли ти спроможний зробити добро, не говори: Приходь іншим разом, — завтра дам! Адже ти не знаєш, що принесе завтрашній день.

29

Do not plan evil against your neighbor,
who dwells trustingly beside you.

Не куй зла на свого друга, який живе поряд і довіряє тобі.

30

Do not contend with a man for no reason,
when he has done you no harm.

Безпідставно не сварися з людиною, щоб часом вона не заподіяла тобі зла.

31

Do not envy a man of violence
and do not choose any of his ways,

Не накликай на себе зневаги поганих людей і не заздри їхнім дорогам.

for the devious person is an abomination to the Lord,
but the upright are in his confidence.

Бо всякий беззаконник нечистий перед Господом, і з праведними Він не засідає в раді.

33

The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked,
but he blesses the dwelling of the righteous.

33

Прокляття Боже на домах безбожних, а поселення праведних — благословенні.

34

Toward the scorners he is scornful,
but to the humble he gives favor.f

34

Господь гордим противиться, а покірним дає благодать.

35

The wise will inherit honor,
but fools getg disgrace.

35

Мудрі успадкують славу, а безбожні нагромаджують собі ганьбу.
