The Lord Is Holy

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

І Господь промовляв до Мойсея, говорячи:

“Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

„Промовляй до всієї громади Ізра́їлевих синів, та й скажеш їм: Будьте святі, бо святий Я, — Госпо́дь, Бог ваш!

3

Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and you shall keep my Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.

Кожен буде боятися матері своєї та батька свого, а субіт Моїх будете доде́ржувати. Я — Господь, Бог ваш!

4

Do not turn to idols or make for yourselves any gods of cast metal: I am the Lord your God.

4

Не зверта́йтеся до ідолів, і не робіть собі литих божкі́в. Я — Господь Бог ваш!

“When you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord, you shall offer it so that you may be accepted.

5

А коли ви принесете мирну жертву для Господа, — на вподо́бання вас принесете її.

6

It shall be eaten the same day you offer it or on the day after, and anything left over until the third day shall be burned up with fire.

6

Ви будете їсти її в день прине́сення вашого та взавтра, а позостале до дня третього — огнем буде спа́лене.

7

If it is eaten at all on the third day, it is tainted; it will not be accepted,

А якщо справді буде їджене воно третього дня, — нечистість воно, не буде вподо́бане.

and everyone who eats it shall bear his iniquity, because he has profaned what is holy to the Lord, and that person shall be cut off from his people.

А хто те їсть, понесе він свій гріх, бо спога́нив він святиню Господню, — і буде винищена душа та з-посеред народу свого!

Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

“When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest.

А коли ти будеш жати жни́во своєї землі, не докінчуй жати до кра́ю свого поля, а попадалих колосків твого жни́ва не бу́деш збирати;

10

And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lord your God.

а виноградника свого не вибереш дорешти, а попадалих ягід виноградника свого не будеш збирати, — для вбогого та для прихо́дька позостав їх. Я — Господь, Бог ваш!

11

“You shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another.

11

Не будете красти, і не будете неправдиво заперечувати, і не будете говорити неправди один на о́дного!

12

You shall not swear by my name falsely, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.

12

І не будете присягати Моїм Іменем на неправду, бо зневажиш Ім'я́ Бога свого. Я — Господь!

13

“You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired worker shall not remain with you all night until the morning.

13

Не будеш гноби́ти ближнього свого, і не будеш грабувати, і не задержиш в себе через ніч аж до ранку заробітку наймита.

14

You shall not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.

14

Не будеш проклинати глухого, а перед сліпим не роби перешкоди, — і будеш боятися Бога свого. Я — Господь!

15

“You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.

15

Не зробите кривди в суді: не будеш потура́ти особі вбогого, і не будеш підлещуватися до особи вельможного, — за правдою суди свого ближнього!

16

You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand up against the lifea of your neighbor: I am the Lord.

16

Не будеш ходити пліткаре́м серед наро́ду свого. Не будеш настава́ти на життя свого ближнього. Я — Господь!

17

“You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him.

17

Не будеш нена́видіти брата свого в серці своє́му. Конче вияви неправду свого ближнього, — і не понесеш гріха за нього.

18

You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

18

Не будеш мститися, і не будеш нена́видіти синів свого наро́ду. І будеш любити ближнього свого, як самого себе! Я — Господь!

19

You Shall Keep My Statutes

“You shall keep my statutes. You shall not let your cattle breed with a different kind. You shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor shall you wear a garment of cloth made of two kinds of material.

Постанов Моїх будете дотримувати. Не зробиш, щоб худоба твоя злучувалася двоїсто. Поля свого не будеш обсівати двоїсто. А одежа двоїста, мішани́на нито́к, не вві́йде на тебе.

20

“If a man lies sexually with a woman who is a slave, assigned to another man and not yet ransomed or given her freedom, a distinction shall be made. They shall not be put to death, because she was not free;

А чоловік, коли буде злягатися з жінкою, а вона — невільниця, заручена чоловікові, а справді не була вона ви́куплена, або ви́зволення не було дане їй, — то нехай буде кара, але не будуть вони забиті, бо не увільнена вона.

21

but he shall bring his compensation to the Lord, to the entrance of the tent of meeting, a ram for a guilt offering.

21

І спровадить він жертву за провину свою Господе́ві до входу скинії заповіту, — барана жертви за провину.

22

And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before the Lord for his sin that he has committed, and he shall be forgiven for the sin that he has committed.

22

І очистить його священик бараном жертви за провину перед Господнім лицем за гріх його, що він був згрішив. І про́ститься йому гріх його, що він був згрішив.

23

“When you come into the land and plant any kind of tree for food, then you shall regard its fruit as forbidden.b Three years it shall be forbidden to you; it must not be eaten.

А коли ви вві́йдете до кра́ю цього, і понаса́джуєте всяке їстивне́ дерево, то плід його вважатимете за необрізаний, — три роки буде воно для вас необрізане, не буде їджене.

24

And in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord.

24

А року четвертого ввесь плід його присвятиться для Господа.

25

But in the fifth year you may eat of its fruit, to increase its yield for you: I am the Lord your God.

25

А року п'ятого бу́дете їсти плід його, щоб помно́жився для вас урожай його. Я — Господь, Бог ваш.

26

“You shall not eat any flesh with the blood in it. You shall not interpret omens or tell fortunes.

26

Не будете їсти з кров'ю. Не будете ворожи́ти, і не будете чарува́ти!

27

You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard.

27

Не будете стригти волосся довко́ла голови вашої, і не будеш ни́щити кра́ю бороди своєї.

28

You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord.

28

І не зробите на тілі своїм нарізу за душу померлого, і не зробите на собі нако́леного на́пису. Я — Господь!

29

“Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land fall into prostitution and the land become full of depravity.

29

Не безчесть своєї дочки, і не роби її блудли́вою, щоб не стала блудли́вою ця земля, і не напо́внилась земля розпустою.

30

You shall keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.

30

Субіт Моїх будете доде́ржувати, а святиню Мою будете шанувати. Я — Господь!

31

“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.

31

Не звертайтесь до ду́хів померлих та до ворожбитів, і не доводьте себе до опога́нення ними. Я — Господь, Бог ваш!

32

“You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.

32

Перед лицем сивизни́ встань, і вшануй лице старо́го, і будеш боятися Бога свого. Я — Господь!

33

“When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong.

33

А коли мешкатиме з тобою прихо́дько в вашім краї, то не будете гноби́ти його.

34

You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

34

Як тубілець із вас буде для вас прихо́дько, що мешкає з вами, — і ти будеш любити його, як самого себе, бо прихо́дьки були ви в єгипетськім кра́ї. Я — Господь, Бог ваш!

35

“You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measures of length or weight or quantity.

35

Не будете чинити кривди в суді́, у мірі, у вазі́ та в мірі рідини́.

36

You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin:c I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

36

Вага вірна, тягарці вірні, ефа вірна, гін вірний буде в вас. Я — Господь, Бог ваш, що вивів вас із єгипетського кра́ю!

37

And you shall observe all my statutes and all my rules, and do them: I am the Lord.”

37

І ви будете держати всі постанови Мої та всі устави Мої, і вико́нуватимете їх. Я — Господь!“
