The Lord Is Holy

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

“Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

Промов до громади ізраїльських синів та скажи їм: Будьте святими, бо Я, Господь, ваш Бог, — святий.

Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and you shall keep my Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.

Нехай кожний боїться свого батька та своєї матері. Дотримуйтесь Моїх субот: Я — Господь, ваш Бог.

4

Do not turn to idols or make for yourselves any gods of cast metal: I am the Lord your God.

Не ходіть слідом за ідолами й не робіть собі богів, вилитих із металу: Я — Господь, ваш Бог.

“When you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord, you shall offer it so that you may be accepted.

Коли будете приносити Господу жертву спасіння, приносьте її прийнятною для вас.

It shall be eaten the same day you offer it or on the day after, and anything left over until the third day shall be burned up with fire.

Нехай вона буде спожита в той день, коли ви її принесете, і на наступний день. А якщо щось залишиться аж до третього дня, — нехай буде спалене у вогні.

If it is eaten at all on the third day, it is tainted; it will not be accepted,

and everyone who eats it shall bear his iniquity, because he has profaned what is holy to the Lord, and that person shall be cut off from his people.

Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

“When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest.

Коли будете жати жниво своєї землі, не докінчуйте жнива свого поля, повністю вижинаючи його, і не визбируй того, що з твого жнива попадає на землю.

10

And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lord your God.

Також не оббирай свого виноградника повторно і не визбируй зі свого виноградника виноградин. Залиш їх убогому та захожому. Я — Господь, ваш Бог.

“You shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another.

You shall not swear by my name falsely, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.

“You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired worker shall not remain with you all night until the morning.

Не кривдь ближнього, не грабуй, і хай заробіток наймита не залишається в тебе через ніч до ранку.

14

You shall not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.

14

Не лихослов глухого і не став спотикання перед сліпим. Бійся Господа, свого Бога. Я — Господь, ваш Бог.

15

“You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.

15

Не чиніть несправедливості на суді: не зважай на обличчя бідного і не захоплюйся обличчям вельможі, — суди свого ближнього справедливо.

16

You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand up against the lifea of your neighbor: I am the Lord.

16

Не ходи серед свого народу підступом. Не повставай на кров свого ближнього. Я — Господь, ваш Бог.

17

“You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him.

17

Не ненавидь подумки свого брата, натомість обов’язково докори [2] своєму ближньому — і не візьмеш на себе через нього гріх.

18

You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

18

Хай твоя рука не буде мстивою, і не тримай на синів свого народу зла, а люби свого ближнього, як самого себе. Я — Господь.

19

You Shall Keep My Statutes

“You shall keep my statutes. You shall not let your cattle breed with a different kind. You shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor shall you wear a garment of cloth made of two kinds of material.

Дотримуйтесь Мого закону. Не спрягай своєї худоби різним ярмом, не засаджуй свого виноградника різнородним живцем і не надягай на себе одягу, витканого змішано з двох прядив.

20

“If a man lies sexually with a woman who is a slave, assigned to another man and not yet ransomed or given her freedom, a distinction shall be made. They shall not be put to death, because she was not free;

Якщо хтось спатиме з жінкою, і станеться виверження сімені, а вона — рабиня, що береглася для іншого чоловіка, однак вона ще не була жодним чином викуплена [3] , ані не була їй дарована свобода, то нехай їм буде призначено покарання, але щоб вони не померли, бо та жінка ще не була звільнена.

but he shall bring his compensation to the Lord, to the entrance of the tent of meeting, a ram for a guilt offering.

21

І нехай той чоловік в [жертву за] свій переступ Господу приведе до входу в намет свідчення барана [жертви за] переступ.

22

And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before the Lord for his sin that he has committed, and he shall be forgiven for the sin that he has committed.

22

Священик звершить за нього викуплення перед Господом бараном [жертви за] переступ, за гріх, яким він згрішив, — і гріх, яким він згрішив, буде йому прощений.

23

“When you come into the land and plant any kind of tree for food, then you shall regard its fruit as forbidden.b Three years it shall be forbidden to you; it must not be eaten.

Коли ввійдете до землі, яку Господь, ваш Бог, дає вам, і посадите будь-яке їстівне дерево, то очистите його нечистоту; три роки його плід нехай буде для вас нечистим, — не буде споживатися.

24

And in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord.

24

А четвертого року всякий його плід нехай буде святим, на хвалу Господу.

25

But in the fifth year you may eat of its fruit, to increase its yield for you: I am the Lord your God.

П’ятого ж року можете їсти його плід. Так його урожай буде вам на прибуток. Я — Господь, ваш Бог.

“You shall not eat any flesh with the blood in it. You shall not interpret omens or tell fortunes.

26

Не їжте на горах. Не ворожіть і не гадайте на птахах.

27

You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard.

27

Не робіть локонів з волосся своєї голови ані не псуйте вигляду своєї бороди.

28

You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord.

28

Не робіть на своєму тілі нарізів за душу померлого і не робіть на собі наколених написів. Я — Господь, ваш Бог.

29

“Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land fall into prostitution and the land become full of depravity.

29

Не опоганюй своєї дочки, щоб віддати її розпусті, — тож і земля не буде віддана розпусті й не наповниться земля беззаконням.

30

You shall keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.

30

Дотримуйтесь Моїх субот і шануйте Мої святощі. Я — Господь.

31

“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.

31

Не ходіть слідом за черевомовцями і не приставайте до чаклунів, щоб осквернитися ними. Я — Господь, ваш Бог.

32

“You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.

32

Підводься перед обличчям сивого і шануй обличчя старця; бійся свого Бога. Я — Господь, ваш Бог.

33

“When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong.

33

Якщо у вашу землю зайде до вас якийсь захожий, не пригноблюйте його.

34

You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

34

Захожий, який прийде до вас, нехай між вами буде як корінний житель; люби його, як самого себе, бо і ви були захожими в Єгипетській землі. Я — Господь, ваш Бог.

35

“You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measures of length or weight or quantity.

35

Не чиніть несправедливості на суді, у мірках, у тягарцях та в терезах.

36

You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin:c I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

36

Нехай у вас будуть справедливі терези, справедливі тягарці і справедлива мірка рідини. Я — Господь, ваш Бог, Який вивів вас із Єгипетської землі.

37

And you shall observe all my statutes and all my rules, and do them: I am the Lord.”

37
