  • The words of Amos, who was among the shepherdsa of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two yearsb before the earthquake.
  • Judgment on Neighbor Nations

    The words of Amos, who was among the sheepherders from Tekoa, which he envisioned in visions concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
  • Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors

    And he said:
    “The Lord roars from Zion
    and utters his voice from Jerusalem;
    the pastures of the shepherds mourn,
    and the top of Carmel withers.”
  • He said,
    “The LORD roars from Zion
    And from Jerusalem He utters His voice;
    And the shepherds’ pasture grounds mourn,
    And the summit of Carmel dries up.”
  • Thus says the Lord:
    “For three transgressions of Damascus,
    and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,c
    because they have threshed Gilead
    with threshing sledges of iron.
  • Thus says the LORD,
    “For three transgressions of Damascus and for four
    I will not revoke its punishment,
    Because they threshed Gilead with implements of sharp iron.
  • So I will send a fire upon the house of Hazael,
    and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad.
  • “So I will send fire upon the house of Hazael
    And it will consume the citadels of Ben-hadad.
  • I will break the gate-bar of Damascus,
    and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of Aven,d
    and him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden;
    and the people of Syria shall go into exile to Kir,”
    says the Lord.
  • “I will also break the gate bar of Damascus,
    And cut off the inhabitant from the valley of Aven,
    And him who holds the scepter, from Beth-eden;
    So the people of Aram will go exiled to Kir,”
    Says the LORD.
  • Thus says the Lord:
    “For three transgressions of Gaza,
    and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
    because they carried into exile a whole people
    to deliver them up to Edom.
  • Thus says the LORD,
    “For three transgressions of Gaza and for four
    I will not revoke its punishment,
    Because they deported an entire population
    To deliver it up to Edom.
  • So I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza,
    and it shall devour her strongholds.
  • “So I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza
    And it will consume her citadels.
  • I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod,
    and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;
    I will turn my hand against Ekron,
    and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”
    says the Lord God.
  • “I will also cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod,
    And him who holds the scepter, from Ashkelon;
    I will even unleash My power upon Ekron,
    And the remnant of the Philistines will perish,”
    Says the Lord GOD.
  • Thus says the Lord:
    “For three transgressions of Tyre,
    and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
    because they delivered up a whole people to Edom,
    and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.
  • Thus says the LORD,
    “For three transgressions of Tyre and for four
    I will not revoke its punishment,
    Because they delivered up an entire population to Edom
    And did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.
  • So I will send a fire upon the wall of Tyre,
    and it shall devour her strongholds.”
  • “So I will send fire upon the wall of Tyre
    And it will consume her citadels.”
  • Thus says the Lord:
    “For three transgressions of Edom,
    and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
    because he pursued his brother with the sword
    and cast off all pity,
    and his anger tore perpetually,
    and he kept his wrath forever.
  • Thus says the LORD,
    “For three transgressions of Edom and for four
    I will not revoke its punishment,
    Because he pursued his brother with the sword,
    While he stifled his compassion;
    His anger also tore continually,
    And he maintained his fury forever.
  • So I will send a fire upon Teman,
    and it shall devour the strongholds of Bozrah.”
  • “So I will send fire upon Teman
    And it will consume the citadels of Bozrah.”
  • Thus says the Lord:
    “For three transgressions of the Ammonites,
    and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
    because they have ripped open pregnant women in Gilead,
    that they might enlarge their border.
  • Thus says the LORD,
    “For three transgressions of the sons of Ammon and for four
    I will not revoke its punishment,
    Because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead
    In order to enlarge their borders.
  • So I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah,
    and it shall devour her strongholds,
    with shouting on the day of battle,
    with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;
  • “So I will kindle a fire on the wall of Rabbah
    And it will consume her citadels
    Amid war cries on the day of battle,
    And a storm on the day of tempest.
  • and their king shall go into exile,
    he and his princese together,”
    says the Lord.
  • “Their king will go into exile,
    He and his princes together,” says the LORD.
