New Living Translation

  • A Vision of a Man with a Measuring Line

a And I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand!
  • Future Prosperity of Jerusalem

aWhen I looked again, I saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.
  • Then I said, “Where are you going?” And he said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.”
  • “Where are you going?” I asked.
He replied, “I am going to measure Jerusalem, to see how wide and how long it is.”
  • And behold, the angel who talked with me came forward, and another angel came forward to meet him
  • Then the angel who was with me went to meet a second angel who was coming toward him.
  • and said to him, “Run, say to that young man, ‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of people and livestock in it.
  • The other angel said, “Hurry, and say to that young man, ‘Jerusalem will someday be so full of people and livestock that there won’t be room enough for everyone! Many will live outside the city walls.
  • And I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the Lord, and I will be the glory in her midst.’”
  • Then I, myself, will be a protective wall of fire around Jerusalem, says the LORD. And I will be the glory inside the city!’”
  • Up! Up! Flee from the land of the north, declares the Lord. For I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heavens, declares the Lord.

  • The Exiles Are Called Home

The LORD says, “Come away! Flee from Babylon in the land of the north, for I have scattered you to the four winds.
  • Up! Escape to Zion, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.
  • Come away, people of Zion, you who are exiled in Babylon!”
  • For thus said the Lord of hosts, after his glory sent meb to the nations who plundered you, for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye:
  • After a period of glory, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies sent meb against the nations who plundered you. For he said, “Anyone who harms you harms my most precious possession.c
  • “Behold, I will shake my hand over them, and they shall become plunder for those who served them. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me.
  • I will raise my fist to crush them, and their own slaves will plunder them.” Then you will know that the LORD of Heaven’s Armies has sent me.
  • Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I come and I will dwell in your midst, declares the Lord.
  • The LORD says, “Shout and rejoice, O beautiful Jerusalem,d for I am coming to live among you.
  • And many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people. And I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you.
  • Many nations will join themselves to the LORD on that day, and they, too, will be my people. I will live among you, and you will know that the LORD of Heaven’s Armies sent me to you.
  • And the Lord will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.”
  • The land of Judah will be the LORD’s special possession in the holy land, and he will once again choose Jerusalem to be his own city.
  • Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.
  • Be silent before the LORD, all humanity, for he is springing into action from his holy dwelling.”
