Darby Bible Translation

  • Greeting

The elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all who know the truth,
  • Greeting from the Elder

The elder to [the] elect lady and her children, whom *I* love in truth, and not *I* only but also all who have known the truth,
  • because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us forever:
  • for the truth's sake which abides in us and shall be with us to eternity.
  • Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father’s Son, in truth and love.
  • Grace shall be with you, mercy, peace from God [the] Father, and from [the] Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
  • Walking in Truth and Love

I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father.
  • Walking in the Truth

I rejoiced greatly that I have found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received commandment from the Father.
  • And now I ask you, dear lady — not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning — that we love one another.
  • And now I beseech thee, lady, not as writing to thee a new commandment, but that which we have had from [the] beginning, that we should love one another.
  • And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.
  • And this is love, that we should walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, according as ye have heard from the beginning, that ye might walk in it.
  • For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.
  • Beware of Deceivers

For many deceivers have gone out into the world, they who do not confess Jesus Christ coming in flesh -- this is the deceiver and the antichrist.
  • Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what wea have worked for, but may win a full reward.
  • See to yourselves, that we may not lose what we have wrought, but may receive full wages.
  • Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
  • Whosoever goes forward and abides not in the doctrine of the Christ has not God. He that abides in the doctrine, *he* has both the Father and the Son.
  • If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting,
  • If any one come to you and bring not this doctrine, do not receive him into [the] house, and greet him not;
  • for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.
  • for he who greets him partakes in his wicked works.
  • Final Greetings

Though I have much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and ink. Instead I hope to come to you and talk face to face, so that our joy may be complete.
  • Final Greetings

Having many things to write to you, I would not with paper and ink; but hope to come to you, and to speak mouth to mouth, that our joy may be full.
  • The children of your elect sister greet you.
  • The children of thine elect sister greet thee.
