God’s Righteousness Upheld

Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision?

Отож, що́ має більшого юдей, або яка ко́ристь від обрі́зання?

Much in every way. To begin with, the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God.

Багато, на всякий спосіб, а насамперед, що їм довірені були́ Слова́ Божі.

What if some were unfaithful? Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God?

Бо що ж, що не вірували деякі? Чи ж їхнє недовірство знищить вірність Божу?

By no means! Let God be true though every one were a liar, as it is written,
“That you may be justified in your words,
and prevail when you are judged.”

Зо́всім ні! Бож Бог правдивий, а кожна люди́на неправдива, як написано: „Щоб був Ти ви́правданий у словах Своїх, і переміг, коли будеш судитися“.

But if our unrighteousness serves to show the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unrighteous to inflict wrath on us? (I speak in a human way.)

А коли наша неправедність виставляє праведність Божу, то що скажемо? Чи ж Бог несправедливий, коли гнів виявляє? Говорю́ по-лю́дському.

By no means! For then how could God judge the world?

Зо́всім ні! Бож як Бог судитиме світ?

But if through my lie God’s truth abounds to his glory, why am I still being condemned as a sinner?

Бо коли Божа правда через мою неправду збі́льшилась на славу Йому, пощо судити ще й мене, як грішника?

And why not do evil that good may come? — as some people slanderously charge us with saying. Their condemnation is just.

І чи не так, як нас лають, і як деякі гово́рять, ніби ми кажемо: „Робімо зле, щоб вийшло добре?“ Справедливий о́суд на таких!

No One Is Righteous

What then? Are we Jewsa any better off?b No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin,

То що ж? Маємо перевагу? Анітро́хи! Бож ми перед тим довели́, що юдеї й ге́ллени — усі під гріхом,

as it is written:
“None is righteous, no, not one;

10

як написано: „Нема праведного ані о́дного;

11

no one understands;
no one seeks for God.

нема, хто розумів би; немає, хто Бога шукав би, —

12

All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”

усі повідступа́ли, ра́зом стали непотрібні, нема доброчинця, нема ні одно́го!

“Their throat is an open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.”
“The venom of asps is under their lips.”

Гріб відкритий — їхнє горло, язиком своїм кажуть неправду, отрута зміїна на їхніх губа́х,

14

“Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”

уста́ їхні повні прокляття й гірко́ти!

“Their feet are swift to shed blood;

Швидкі їхні ноги, щоб кров проливати,

16

in their paths are ruin and misery,

16

руїна та злидні на їхніх дорогах,

17

and the way of peace they have not known.”

а дороги миру вони не пізнали!

18

“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

18

Нема страху Божого перед очима їхніми“.

Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.

19

А ми знаємо, що скільки гово́рить Зако́н, він говорить до тих, хто під Зако́ном, щоб замкнути всякі уста́, і щоб став увесь світ винний Богові.

20

For by works of the law no human beingc will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

20

Бо жодне тіло ділами Зако́ну не ви́правдається перед Ним, — Зако́ном бо гріх пізнається.

The Righteousness of God Through Faith

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it —

А тепер, без Зако́ну, праведність Божа з'явилась,про яку свідчать Зако́н і Пророки.

the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:

А Божа праведність через віру в Ісуса Христа в усіх і на всіх, хто вірує, бо різниці немає,

23

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

23

бо всі згрішили, і позбавлені Божої слави,

24

and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

24

але дарма́ виправдуються Його благода́ттю, через відку́плення, що в Ісусі Христі,

25

whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.

25

що Його Бог дав у жертву прими́рення в крові Його через віру, щоб виявити Свою праведність через відпу́щення давніше вчинених гріхів,

26

It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

за довготерпі́ння Божого, щоб виявити Свою праведність за теперішнього ча́су, щоб бути Йому праведним, і виправдувати того, хто вірує в Ісуса.

27

Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith.

27

Тож де похвальба́? Виключена. Яким зако́ном? Законом діл? Ні, але зако́ном віри.

28

For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.

28

Отож, ми визнаємо, що люди́на виправдується вірою, — без діл Зако́ну.

29

Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,

Хіба ж Бог тільки для юдеїв, а не й для поган? Так, і для поган,

30

since God is one — who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith.

бо є один тільки Бог, що ви́правдає обрізання з віри й необрізання через віру.

31

Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.

31

Тож чи не нищимо ми Зако́на вірою? Зо́всім ні, — але зміцнюємо Зако́на.
