Darby Bible Translation

  • Spiritual Gifts

    Now concerninga spiritual gifts,b brothers,c I do not want you to be uninformed.
  • Spiritual Gifts Bestowed

    But concerning spiritual [manifestations], brethren, I do not wish you to be ignorant.
  • You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led.
  • Ye know that when ye were [of the] nations [ye were] led away to dumb idols, in whatever way ye might be led.
  • Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.
  • I give you therefore to know, that no one, speaking in [the power of the] Spirit of God, says, Curse [on] Jesus; and no one can say, Lord Jesus, unless in [the power of the] Holy Spirit.
  • Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;
  • But there are distinctions of gifts, but the same Spirit;
  • and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord;
  • and there are distinctions of services, and the same Lord;
  • and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.
  • and there are distinctions of operations, but the same God who operates all things in all.
  • To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
  • But to each the manifestation of the Spirit is given for profit.
  • For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit,
  • For to one, by the Spirit, is given [the] word of wisdom; and to another [the] word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit;
  • to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
  • and to a different one faith, in [the power of] the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healing in [the power of] the same Spirit;
  • to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
  • and to another operations of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; and to a different one kinds of tongues; and to another interpretation of tongues.
  • All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
  • But all these things operates the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each in particular according as he pleases.
  • One Body with Many Members

    For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.
  • Many Members, One Body

    For even as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of the body, being many, are one body, so also [is] the Christ.
  • For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body — Jews or Greeks, slavesd or free — and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
  • For also in [the power of] one Spirit *we* have all been baptised into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bondmen or free, and have all been given to drink of one Spirit.
  • For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
  • For also the body is not one member but many.
  • If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
  • If the foot say, Because I am not a hand I am not of the body, is it on account of this not indeed of the body?
  • And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
  • And if the ear say, Because I am not an eye I am not of the body, is it on account of this not indeed of the body?
  • If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell?
  • If the whole body [were] an eye, where the hearing? if all hearing, where the smelling?
  • But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.
  • But now God has set the members, each one of them in the body, according as it has pleased [him].
  • If all were a single member, where would the body be?
  • But if all were one member, where the body?
  • As it is, there are many parts,e yet one body.
  • But now the members [are] many, and the body one.
  • The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”
  • The eye cannot say to the hand, I have not need of thee; or again, the head to the feet, I have not need of you.
  • On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
  • But much rather, the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary;
  • and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty,
  • and those [parts] of the body which we esteem to be the more void of honour, these we clothe with more abundant honour; and our uncomely [parts] have more abundant comeliness;
  • which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it,
  • but our comely [parts] have not need. But God has tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to [the part] that lacked;
  • that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.
  • that there might be no division in the body, but that the members might have the same concern one for another.
  • If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.
  • And if one member suffer, all the members suffer with [it]; and if one member be glorified, all the members rejoice with [it].
  • Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
  • Now *ye* are Christ's body, and members in particular.
  • And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.
  • Spiritual Gifts

    And God has set certain in the assembly: first, apostles; secondly, prophets; thirdly, teachers; then miraculous powers; then gifts of healings; helps; governments; kinds of tongues.
  • Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
  • [Are] all apostles? [are] all prophets? [are] all teachers? [are] all [in possession of] miraculous powers?
  • Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?
  • have all gifts of healings? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
  • But earnestly desire the higher gifts.
    And I will show you a still more excellent way.
  • But desire earnestly the greater gifts, and yet shew I unto you a way of more surpassing excellence.
