and said to them, “You have kept all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you and have obeyed my voice in all that I have commanded you.
та й сказав їм: „Ви виконували все, що вам наказав був раб Господній Мойсей, і ви слухалися голосу мого про все, що я вам наказував.
You have not forsaken your brothers these many days, down to this day, but have been careful to keep the charge of the Lord your God.
Ви оце не лишали братів своїх довгі дні аж до цього дня, і ви додержували ви́конання за́повідей Господа, Бога вашого.
And now the Lord your God has given rest to your brothers, as he promised them. Therefore turn and go to your tents in the land where your possession lies, which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you on the other side of the Jordan.
А тепер Господь, Бог ваш, дав мир вашим братам, як вам говорив був. І тепер поверні́ться, та й ідіть собі до наметів своїх, до кра́ю вашої власности, що вам дав Мойсей, раб Господній, на тім боці Йорда́ну.
Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments and to cling to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
Тільки дуже пильнуйте виконувати заповідь та Зако́на, що наказав був вам Мойсей, раб Господній: любити Господа, Бога вашого, і ходити всіма́ Його дорогами, і додержувати Його заповіді, і линути до Нього, і служити Йому всім вашим серцем та всією вашою душею“.
So Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went to their tents.
І поблагословив їх Ісус, та й послав їх, а вони пішли до наме́тів своїх.

А половині Манасіїного племени Мойсей дав у Башані, а половині його дав Ісус з їхніми братами на цім боці Йорда́ну на за́хід. І також, коли Ісус відпускав їх до їхніх наме́тів, то поблагословив їх,
he said to them, “Go back to your tents with much wealth and with very much livestock, with silver, gold, bronze, and iron, and with much clothing. Divide the spoil of your enemies with your brothers.”
та й сказав до них, говорячи: „Верніться до своїх наметів із великими маєтками та з дуже числе́нною худобою, зо сріблом, і з золотом, і з міддю, і з залізом, і з дуже багатьома́ одежами. Поділіть здо́бич від ваших ворогів із вашими братами“.
So the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned home, parting from the people of Israel at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead, their own land of which they had possessed themselves by command of the Lord through Moses.
І вернулися, і пішли сини Рувимові й сини Ґадові та половина Манасіїного племени від Ізраїлевих синів, із Шіло́, що в ханаанському краї, щоб піти до кра́ю Ґілеад, до кра́ю своєї власности, що посіли його на наказ Господній через Мойсея.
The Eastern Tribes’ Altar of Witness
And when they came to the region of the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, an altar of imposing size.

І прийшли до йорда́нських могил, що в ханаанському кра́ї, і збудували там сини Рувимові й сини Ґадові та половина Манасіїного племени же́ртівника над Йорда́ном, жертівника великого на вид.
And the people of Israel heard it said, “Behold, the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built the altar at the frontier of the land of Canaan, in the region about the Jordan, on the side that belongs to the people of Israel.”
І почули Ізраїлеві сини таке: „Оце збудували сини Руви́мові й сини Ґадові та половина Манасіїного племени же́ртівника навпроти ханаанського кра́ю, при йорданських моги́лах, на боці Ізраїлевих синів.
And when the people of Israel heard of it, the whole assembly of the people of Israel gathered at Shiloh to make war against them.
І почули це Ізраїлеві сини, і була́ зібрана вся громада Ізраїлевих синів до Шіло́, щоб піти на них війною.
Then the people of Israel sent to the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,
І послали Ізраїлеві сини до синів Руви́мових і до синів Ґадових та до половини Манасіїного племени ґілеадського кра́ю Пінхаса, сина священика Елеазара,
and with him ten chiefs, one from each of the tribal families of Israel, every one of them the head of a family among the clans of Israel.
та з ним десять начальників, по одному начальникові для батькового дому з усіх Ізраїлевих племен; а кожен із них — голова дому їхніх батьків, вони для тисяч Ізраїлевих.
And they came to the people of Reuben, the people of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, and they said to them,
І прийшли вони до синів Руви́мових й до синів Ґадових та до половини Манасіїного племени до ґілеадського кра́ю, та й говорили з ними, кажучи:
“Thus says the whole congregation of the Lord, ‘What is this breach of faith that you have committed against the God of Israel in turning away this day from following the Lord by building yourselves an altar this day in rebellion against the Lord?
„Так сказала вся Господня громада: Що́ це за пере́ступ, що ви спроневі́рилися ним проти Ізраїлевого Бога, щоб відвернутись сьогодні від Господа? Бо ви збудували собі же́ртівника, щоб сьогодні збунтуватися проти Господа.
Have we not had enough of the sin at Peor from which even yet we have not cleansed ourselves, and for which there came a plague upon the congregation of the Lord,
Чи нам мало Пеорового гріха́, з якого ми не очистилися аж до цього дня, і була пора́за в Господній громаді?
that you too must turn away this day from following the Lord? And if you too rebel against the Lord today then tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.
А ви відверта́єтеся сьогодні від Господа. І станеться, — ви збунутуєтеся сьогодні проти Господа, а Він узавтра розгнівається на всю Ізраїлеву громаду.
But now, if the land of your possession is unclean, pass over into the Lord’s land where the Lord’s tabernacle stands, and take for yourselves a possession among us. Only do not rebel against the Lord or make us as rebels by building for yourselves an altar other than the altar of the Lord our God.
І справді, — якщо край вашої посілости нечистий, перейдіть собі до кра́ю Господньої посілости, що там пробу ває Господня скинія, і візьміть посілість серед нас, а на Господа не бунтуйтеся, і не бунтуйтеся проти нас вашим збудува́нням собі же́ртівника, окрім жертівника Господа, Бога нашого.
Did not Achan the son of Zerah break faith in the matter of the devoted things, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And he did not perish alone for his iniquity.’”
Чи ж не Ахан, син Зерахів, спроневі́рився був пере́ступом у заклятому, а гнів був на всю Ізраїлеву громаду? І він був єди́ний чоловік, що не помер своєю смертю через свій гріх“.
Then the people of Reuben, the people of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh said in answer to the heads of the families of Israel,
І відповіли сини Руви́мові, сини Ґадові та половина Манасіїного племени, і говорили з головами тисяч Ізраїлевих:
“The Mighty One, God, the Lord! The Mighty One, God, the Lord! He knows; and let Israel itself know! If it was in rebellion or in breach of faith against the Lord, do not spare us today
„Бог богів Господь, Бог богів Господь, — Він знає, і Ізра́їль — він буде знати. Не пощади́ нас цього дня, якщо бунтом і якщо пере́ступом проти Господа ми це зробили,
for building an altar to turn away from following the Lord. Or if we did so to offer burnt offerings or grain offerings or peace offerings on it, may the Lord himself take vengeance.
якщо ми збудували собі же́ртівника на відве́рнення від Господа; а якщо ми будували на прине́сення цілопа́лення та жертви хлі́бної, і якщо на споря́дження на ньому мирних жертов, то Господь — Він відплатить,
No, but we did it from fear that in time to come your children might say to our children, ‘What have you to do with the Lord, the God of Israel?
і якщо ми не зробили цього з оба́вою про таку річ, гово́рячи: Завтра скажуть ваші сини до наших синів, говорячи: Що вам до Господа, Бога Ізраїлевого?
For the Lord has made the Jordan a boundary between us and you, you people of Reuben and people of Gad. You have no portion in the Lord.’ So your children might make our children cease to worship the Lord.
Бо Господь дав границю поміж нами та поміж вами, сини Рувимові та сини Ґадові, Йорда́н, — нема вам наділу в Господі! І ваші сини віді́рвуть наших синів від бо́язні Господа.
Therefore we said, ‘Let us now build an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice,
Тож сказали ми: Зробім собі, збудуймо жертівника не на цілопа́лення й не на жертву,
but to be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we do perform the service of the Lord in his presence with our burnt offerings and sacrifices and peace offerings, so your children will not say to our children in time to come, “You have no portion in the Lord.”’
але щоб він був свідком між нами та між вами, і між поколіннями нашими по нас, що ми служили служби Господні перед Його лицем нашими цілопа́леннями, і нашими жертвами, і нашими жертвами мирними. І не скажуть ваші сини взавтра до наших синів: нема вам наділу в Господі!
And we thought, ‘If this should be said to us or to our descendants in time to come, we should say, “Behold, the copy of the altar of the Lord, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifice, but to be a witness between us and you.”’
І сказали ми: І станеться, коли так скажуть до нас та до наших поколі́нь узавтра, то ми скажемо: Подивіться на вигляд жертівника, що зробили були наші батьки не на цілопа́лення й не на жертву, але щоб був він свідком між нами та між вами.
Far be it from us that we should rebel against the Lord and turn away this day from following the Lord by building an altar for burnt offering, grain offering, or sacrifice, other than the altar of the Lord our God that stands before his tabernacle!”
Борони нас, Боже, бунтуватися нам проти Господа, і відверта́тися сьогодні від Господа, щоб будувати жертівника на цілопа́лення, і на жертву хлі́бну, і на жертву, окрім жертівника Господа, Бога нашого, що перед скинією Його“.
When Phinehas the priest and the chiefs of the congregation, the heads of the families of Israel who were with him, heard the words that the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the people of Manasseh spoke, it was good in their eyes.
І почув священик Пінхас та начальники громади й го́лови тисяч Ізра́їлевих, що були з ним, ті слова́, що казали сини Рувимові й сини Ґадові та сини Манасіїні, і було це добре в їхніх оча́х.
And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the people of Manasseh, “Today we know that the Lord is in our midst, because you have not committed this breach of faith against the Lord. Now you have delivered the people of Israel from the hand of the Lord.”
І сказав Пінхас, син священика Елеазара, до синів Рувимових, і до синів Ґадових та до синів Манасіїних: „Сьогодні ми пізнали, що Господь серед вас, що ви не спроневі́рилися Господе́ві тим пере́ступом, — тепе́р ви ви́зволили Ізраїлевих синів від Господньої руки“.
Then Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the chiefs, returned from the people of Reuben and the people of Gad in the land of Gilead to the land of Canaan, to the people of Israel, and brought back word to them.
І вернувся Пінхас, син священика Елеазара, та начальники від синів Рувимових, і від синів Ґадових з ґілеадського кра́ю до Кра́ю ханаанського до Ізраїлевих синів, і здали́ їм звіт.
And the report was good in the eyes of the people of Israel. And the people of Israel blessed God and spoke no more of making war against them to destroy the land where the people of Reuben and the people of Gad were settled.
І була́ добра та річ в оча́х синів Ізраїлевих. І поблагословили Бога Ізраїлеві сини, і не сказали йти на них війною, щоб знищити край, що сини Рувимові та сини Ґадові сидять у ньому.
