The New Generation Circumcised

As soon as all the kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan for the people of Israel until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and there was no longer any spirit in them because of the people of Israel.

І сталося, як усі аморе́йські царі́, що по то́й бік Йорда́ну на за́хід, і всі ханаа́нські царі, що над морем, почули, що Госпо́дь висушив був воду Йорда́ну перед Ізраїлевими синами, аж поки вони перейшли, то зомліло їхнє серце, і не було вже в них духу зо стра́ху перед Ізраїлевими синами.

At that time the Lord said to Joshua, “Make flint knives and circumcise the sons of Israel a second time.”

Того ча́су сказав Господь до Ісуса: „Нароби собі камі́нних ножі́в, і пообрізуй Ізраїлевих синів зно́ву, другий раз“.

So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the sons of Israel at Gibeath-haaraloth.a

І наробив собі Ісус камінних ножі́в, та й пообрізував Ізраїлевих синів при Ґів'ат-Гааралоті.

And this is the reason why Joshua circumcised them: all the males of the people who came out of Egypt, all the men of war, had died in the wilderness on the way after they had come out of Egypt.

А оце та причина, чому́ Ісус пообрізував: увесь народ, що вийшов був із Єгипту, чоловічої статі, усі вояки́, повмирали в пустині в дорозі, коли вийшли з Єгипту.

Though all the people who came out had been circumcised, yet all the people who were born on the way in the wilderness after they had come out of Egypt had not been circumcised.

Бо був обрізаний увесь народ, що вихо́див, а всьо́го народу, що народився в пустині в дорозі по ви́ході з Єгипту, не обрізували.

For the people of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, the men of war who came out of Egypt, perished, because they did not obey the voice of the Lord; the Lord swore to them that he would not let them see the land that the Lord had sworn to their fathers to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Бо сорок літ ходили Ізраїлеві сини в пустині, аж поки не вигинув увесь той народ, ті вояки́, що вийшли були з Єгипту, що не слухалися Господнього голосу, що Господь заприсягнув був їм не показати їм того кра́ю, що Господь заприсягнув був їхнім батька́м дати їм край, який тече молоком та медом.

So it was their children, whom he raised up in their place, that Joshua circumcised. For they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised on the way.

А їхніх синів поставив замість них. Їх пообрізував Ісус, бо вони були необрізані, бо їх не обрізували в дорозі.

When the circumcising of the whole nation was finished, they remained in their places in the camp until they were healed.

І сталося, як увесь наро́д закінчи́в обрі́зуватися, то вони осіли в табо́рі на своїх місцях аж до ви́дужання.

And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” And so the name of that place is called Gilgalb to this day.

І сказав Господь до Ісуса: „Сьогодні Я зняв з вас єгипетську га́ньбу“. І назвав те місце ім'я́м: Ґілґал,і так є аж до цього дня.

First Passover in Canaan

While the people of Israel were encamped at Gilgal, they kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month in the evening on the plains of Jericho.

І таборува́ли Ізраїлеві сини в Ґілґалі, і спра́вили Пасху ввечорі чотирнадцятого дня місяця на єрихо́нських степа́х.

And the day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate of the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and parched grain.

А назавтра по Па́сці їли вони того самого дня з урожа́ю того кра́ю, опрі́сноки та пра́жене.

And the manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land. And there was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

І перестала падати ма́нна з другого дня, як вони їли з урожаю того кра́ю, і вже більш не було Ізраїлевим синам манни, — і їли вони того року з урожаю ханаанського кра́ю.

The Commander of the Lord’s Army

When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?”

І сталося, коли Ісус був при Єрихо́ні, то звів очі свої та й побачив, аж ось стоїть навпроти нього чоловік, а ви́тягнений його меч у руці його. І підійшов Ісус до нього, та й сказав йому́: „Чи Ти наш, чи наших ворогів?“

14

And he said, “No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord. Now I have come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshipedc and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?”

А Той відказав: „Ні, бо Я Вождь Господнього ві́йська, тепер Я прийшов“. І впав Ісус на обличчя своє до землі, і вклонився, та й сказав Йому: „Що говорить мій Пан своєму рабові?“

15

And the commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.

І сказав Вождь Господнього війська до Ісуса: „Скинь взуття́ своє з своїх ніг, бо це місце, на якому стоїш ти, святе воно!“ І зробив Ісус так.
