Darby Bible Translation

  • Greeting

    Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God according to the promise of the life that is in Christ Jesus,
  • Paul's Greeting to Timothy

    Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by God's will, according to promise of life, the [life] which [is] in Christ Jesus,
  • To Timothy, my beloved child:
    Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
  • to Timotheus, [my] beloved child: grace, mercy, peace, from God [the] Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord.
  • Guard the Deposit Entrusted to You

    I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day.
  • Encouragement to Be Faithful

    I am thankful to God, whom I serve from [my] forefathers with pure conscience, how unceasingly I have the remembrance of thee in my supplications night and day,
  • As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy.
  • earnestly desiring to see thee, remembering thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
  • I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
  • calling to mind the unfeigned faith which [has been] in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and in thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that in thee also.
  • For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,
  • Patience in Persecution

    For which cause I put thee in mind to rekindle the gift of God which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
  • for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
  • For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and of love, and of wise discretion.
  • Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,
  • Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but suffer evil along with the glad tidings, according to the power of God;
  • who saved us and called us toa a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,b
  • who has saved us, and has called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to [his] own purpose and grace, which [was] given to us in Christ Jesus before [the] ages of time,
  • and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,
  • but has been made manifest now by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has annulled death, and brought to light life and incorruptibility by the glad tidings;
  • for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher,
  • to which *I* have been appointed a herald and apostle and teacher of [the] nations.
  • which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me.c
  • For which cause also I suffer these things; but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep for that day the deposit I have entrusted to him.
  • Follow the pattern of the soundd words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
  • Hold to Sound Teaching

    Have an outline of sound words, which [words] thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which [are] in Christ Jesus.
  • By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.
  • Keep, by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us, the good deposit entrusted.
  • You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.
  • Thou knowest this, that all who [are] in Asia, of whom is Phygellus and Hermogenes, have turned away from me.
  • May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains,
  • The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he has often refreshed me, and has not been ashamed of my chain;
  • but when he arrived in Rome he searched for me earnestly and found me —
  • but being in Rome sought me out very diligently, and found [me] --
  • may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that day! — and you well know all the service he rendered at Ephesus.
  • the Lord grant to him to find mercy from [the] Lord in that day -- and how much service he rendered in Ephesus *thou* knowest best.
