The Lord Calls Samuel
Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord in the presence of Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision.

І хлопчина Самуїл служив Господу перед священиком Ілі. А Господнє слово було рідкісне в ті дні, не було докладного видіння.
At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place.
І сталося в той день, коли Ілі ліг спати на своєму місці і його очі почали ставати важкими, і він не міг бачити.
The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was.
До того, як прийшов час підготовляти Божий світильник, Самуїл спав у храмі, де був Божий ковчег,
Then the Lord called Samuel, and he said, “Here I am!”
і Господь закликав: Самуїле, Самуїле! А він сказав: Ось я!
and ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down.
І він побіг до Ілі, і сказав: Ось я, оскільки ти кликав мене! А він відповів: Я тебе не кликав, повертайся і спи! І той повернувся, і спав.
And the Lord called again, “Samuel!” and Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.”
Та Господь продовжував кликати: Самуїле, Самуїле! І він вдруге пішов до Ілі, кажучи: Ось я, оскільки ти кликав мене! Він знову відповів: Я тебе не кликав, повертайся і спи!
Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.
А це сталося раніше, ніж Самуїл пізнав Бога і йому відкрилося Господнє слово.
And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy.
Господь же продовжував кликати Самуїла — втретє, і він устав, і пішов до Ілі, кажучи: Ось я, оскільки ти кликав мене! І зрозумів Ілі, що хлопчину кличе Господь,
Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
тож він сказав: Повернися, дитино, спи! І буде, коли покличе тебе, то скажеш: Говори, Господи, бо Твій раб слухає! І пішов Самуїл, і спав на своєму місці.
And the Lord came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.”
І прийшов Господь, постав і закликав його так, як перший раз та вдруге, а Самуїл сказав: Говори, бо слухає Твій раб!
Then the Lord said to Samuel, “Behold, I am about to do a thing in Israel at which the two ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.
І Господь промовив до Самуїла: Ось Я чиню Мої слова в Ізраїлі, так що в кожного, хто почує їх, задзвенить в обох його вухах.
On that day I will fulfill against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.
У той день підніму проти Ілі все, що Я сказав проти його дому, — почну і довершу!
Я сповістив йому, що Я помщуся на його домі навіки за несправедливості його синів, бо, коли його сини злословили Бога, він не докоряв їх! А так не буде!
Therefore I swear to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever.”
Я поклявся домові Ілі: Не викупиться несправедливість дому Ілі ладаном і жертвами навіки!
Samuel lay until morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.
Самуїл спав аж до ранку, устав вранці й відчинив двері Господнього дому. І Самуїл побоявся сповістити видіння Ілієві.
But Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son.” And he said, “Here I am.”
І промовив Ілі до Самуїла: Самуїле, дитино! Той відказав: Ось я.
And Eli said, “What was it that he told you? Do not hide it from me. May God do so to you and more also if you hide anything from me of all that he told you.”
А той сказав: Яке слово було сказане тобі? Не скрий же від мене! Те нехай учинить тобі Бог і те додасть, якщо приховаєш від мене слово з усіх слів, сказаних тобі у твої вуха.
So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, “It is the Lord. Let him do what seems good to him.”
І Самуїл сповістив усі слова, і не приховав з них жодного. І сказав Ілі: Господь, Він нехай учинить те, що добре перед Ним.
And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.
І Самуїл став великим, і Господь був з ним, і з усіх Його слів нічого не впало на землю.
And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the Lord.
І взнав увесь Ізраїль, від Дана аж до Вирсавії, що Самуїл вірний Господній пророк.
And the Lord appeared again at Shiloh, for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the Lord.
І Господь продовжував об’являтися в Силомі, оскільки Господь об’явився Самуїлові. І повірили в усьому Ізраїлі, — від краю і аж до краю землі, — що Самуїл став пророком у Господа. Ілі ж був дуже старим, а його сини і далі продовжували життєвий шлях, і їхня дорога залишалася злою перед Господом.
