And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
І сталося ввечері, Давид устав зі свого ліжка і ходив на даху царського будинку. І з даху він побачив жінку, яка милася. А жінка була дуже гарною на вигляд.
And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?
Тож Давид послав, відшукав жінку і сказав: Хіба вона не Вирсавія, дочка Еліява, жінка Урії, хета?
And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.
І послав Давид послів, і взяв її, вона ввійшла до нього, і він переспав з нею. І вона освятилася зі своєї нечистоти, і повернулася до свого дому.
And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.
І послав Давид до Йоава, кажучи: Пошли до мене Урію, хета! І Йоав послав Урію до Давида.
And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.

And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.
А далі Давид сказав Урії: Піди до твого дому і помий свої ноги! І Урія вийшов із царського дому, і пішла за ним частина від царя.
But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.
Та Урія спав біля дверей царя з рабами свого володаря, а до свого дому він не пішов.
And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house?
І Давидові сповістили, доповідаючи: Урія не пішов до свого дому! І промовив Давид до Урії: Хіба ти не прийшов з дороги? Як це, що ти не пішов до твого дому?
And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.
А Урія сказав Давидові: Ковчег, Ізраїль і Юда проживають у наметах, і мій володар Йоав, і раби мого володаря розмістилися на поверхні поля. А я маю піти до мого дому, їсти, пити і спати з моєю жінкою? Як живе твоя душа, не вчиню цієї справи!
And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.
І сказав Давид Урії: Залишайся тут ще й сьогодні, завтра ж відішлю тебе! І Урія провів у Єрусалимі той день та наступний.
And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.
І Давид закликав його, і він їв перед ним і пив, і він напоїв його. І той вийшов увечері спати на своє ліжко з рабами свого володаря, а до свого дому не пішов.
David Arranges Uriah's Death
And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.
А в записці написав, наказуючи: Втягни Урію в запеклий бій, і відступите з-поза нього, і буде ранений, і помре!
And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.
І сталося, коли Йоав чатував біля міста, то поставив Урію на місце, де знав, що там — могутні мужі.
And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.
А мужі міста вийшли і воювали з Йоавом, і впали деякі з народу, з рабів Давида, і помер також Урія, хет.
Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;
Тож Йоав послав, і сповістив цареві всі обставини війни,
And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king,
і дав вказівку посланцеві, кажучи: Коли ти закінчуватимеш говорити цареві всю розповідь про хід війни,
And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?
і буде, коли підніметься гнів царя, і він скаже тобі: Як це наблизилися ви до міста, щоб воювати? Хіба не знаєте, що згори зі стіни стріляють?
Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
Хто вбив Авімелеха, сина Єроваала? Хіба не жінка кинула на нього кусок жорна зверху мура, і він помер в Тамасі? Навіщо ви підійшли до муру? — то ти скажеш: Твій раб Урія, хет, помер.
So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent him for.
І пішов посланець Йоава до царя в Єрусалим, прийшов і сповістив Давидові все, що йому наказав Йоав, про всі обставини війни. І розлютився Давид на Йоава, і сказав посланцеві: Навіщо ви наблизилися до міста, щоб воювати? Хіба ви не знали, що побиті будете зі стіни? Хто вбив Авімелеха, сина Єроваала? Хіба не жінка кинула на нього кусок жорна зі стіни, і він помер в Тамасі? Навіщо ви наблизилися до стіни?
And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate.
А посланець сказав Давидові: Бо сильними стали проти нас мужі й вийшли проти нас на поле, і ми йшли за ними аж до входу в браму,
And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
а лучники стріляли згори зі стіни на твоїх слуг, і деякі зі слуг царя померли, і твій раб Урія, хет, помер…
Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.
Тоді Давид промовив до посланця: Так скажеш Йоавові: Хай не буде злим це слово у твоїх очах, бо часом так, а іноді інакше пожирає меч. Посиль твою війну проти міста, знищ його! — цими словами підкріпи його!
David Marries Bathsheba
And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.

Жінка Урії почула, що Урія, її чоловік, помер і оплакувала свого чоловіка.
And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
А жалоба минула, і Давид послав, і привів її у свій дім, і вона стала йому за жінку, і народила йому сина. Та діло, яке вчинив Давид, видалося поганим в очах Господа.
