  • Descendants of Judah

    The sons of Judah; Pharez, Hezron, and Carmi, and Hur, and Shobal.
  • Other Descendants of Judah

    The descendants of Judah were Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.
  • And Reaiah the son of Shobal begat Jahath; and Jahath begat Ahumai, and Lahad. These are the families of the Zorathites.
  • Shobal’s son Reaiah was the father of Jahath. Jahath was the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These were the families of the Zorathites.
  • And these were of the father of Etam; Jezreel, and Ishma, and Idbash: and the name of their sister was Hazelelponi:
  • The descendants ofa Etam were Jezreel, Ishma, Idbash, their sister Hazzelelponi,
  • And Penuel the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These are the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephratah, the father of Bethlehem.

    And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.
  • There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabezd because his birth had been so painful.

    And Chelub the brother of Shuah begat Mehir, which was the father of Eshton.
  • Kelub (the brother of Shuhah) was the father of Mehir. Mehir was the father of Eshton.
  • And Eshton begat Bethrapha, and Paseah, and Tehinnah the father of Irnahash. These are the men of Rechah.
  • Eshton was the father of Beth-rapha, Paseah, and Tehinnah. Tehinnah was the father of Ir-nahash. These were the descendants of Recah.
  • And the sons of Kenaz; Othniel, and Seraiah: and the sons of Othniel; Hathath.
  • The sons of Kenaz were Othniel and Seraiah. Othniel’s sons were Hathath and Meonothai.e
  • And Meonothai begat Ophrah: and Seraiah begat Joab, the father of the valley of Charashim; for they were craftsmen.
  • Meonothai was the father of Ophrah. Seraiah was the father of Joab, the founder of the Valley of Craftsmen,f so called because they were craftsmen.

  • The sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh were Iru, Elah, and Naam. The son of Elah was Kenaz.

  • The sons of Ezrah were Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. One of Mered’s wives becameg the mother of Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah (the father of Eshtemoa).
  • And his wife Jehudijah bare Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Socho, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Bithiah the daughter of Pharaoh, which Mered took.
  • He married a woman from Judah, who became the mother of Jered (the father of Gedor), Heber (the father of Soco), and Jekuthiel (the father of Zanoah). Mered also married Bithia, a daughter of Pharaoh, and she bore him children.
  • And the sons of his wife Hodiah the sister of Naham, the father of Keilah the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Maachathite.
  • Hodiah’s wife was the sister of Naham. One of her sons was the father of Keilah the Garmite, and another was the father of Eshtemoa the Maacathite.
  • And the sons of Shimon were, Amnon, and Rinnah, Benhanan, and Tilon. And the sons of Ishi were, Zoheth, and Benzoheth.

    The descendants of Ishi were Zoheth and Ben-zoheth.

  • The Sons of Shelah

    The sons of Shelah the son of Judah were, Er the father of Lecah, and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen, of the house of Ashbea,
  • Shelah was one of Judah’s sons. The descendants of Shelah were Er (the father of Lecah); Laadah (the father of Mareshah); the families of linen workers at Beth-ashbea;
  • And Jokim, and the men of Chozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who had the dominion in Moab, and Jashubilehem. And these are ancient things.
  • Jokim; the men of Cozeba; and Joash and Saraph, who ruled over Moab and Jashubi-lehem. These names all come from ancient records.
  • These were the potters, and those that dwelt among plants and hedges: there they dwelt with the king for his work.
  • They were the pottery makers who lived in Netaim and Gederah. They lived there and worked for the king.

  • The Descendants and Cities of Simeon

    The sons of Simeon were, Nemuel, and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, and Shaul:
  • The sons of Simeon were Jemuel,h Jamin, Jarib, Zohar,i and Shaul.
  • Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.
  • The descendants of Shaul were Shallum, Mibsam, and Mishma.
  • And the sons of Mishma; Hamuel his son, Zacchur his son, Shimei his son.
  • The descendants of Mishma were Hammuel, Zaccur, and Shimei.
  • And Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brethren had not many children, neither did all their family multiply, like to the children of Judah.
  • Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but none of his brothers had large families. So Simeon’s tribe never grew as large as the tribe of Judah.
  • And they dwelt at Beersheba, and Moladah, and Hazarshual,

  • And all their villages that were round about the same cities, unto Baal. These were their habitations, and their genealogy.
  • and their surrounding villages as far away as Baalath.j This was their territory, and these names are listed in their genealogical records.
  • And Meshobab, and Jamlech, and Joshah the son of Amaziah,
  • Other descendants of Simeon included Meshobab, Jamlech, Joshah son of Amaziah,
  • And Joel, and Jehu the son of Josibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel,
  • Joel, Jehu son of Joshibiah, son of Seraiah, son of Asiel,
  • And Elioenai, and Jaakobah, and Jeshohaiah, and Asaiah, and Adiel, and Jesimiel, and Benaiah,

  • And Ziza the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah;

  • These mentioned by their names were princes in their families: and the house of their fathers increased greatly.
  • These were the names of some of the leaders of Simeon’s wealthy clans. Their families grew,
  • Their Conquest of Gedor

    And they went to the entrance of Gedor, even unto the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.
  • and they traveled to the region of Gerar,k in the east part of the valley, seeking pastureland for their flocks.
  • And they found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide, and quiet, and peaceable; for they of Ham had dwelt there of old.
  • They found lush pastures there, and the land was spacious, quiet, and peaceful.
    Some of Ham’s descendants had been living in that region.
  • And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks.
  • But during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah, these leaders of Simeon invaded the region and completely destroyedl the homes of the descendants of Ham and of the Meunites. No trace of them remains today. They killed everyone who lived there and took the land for themselves, because they wanted its good pastureland for their flocks.
  • And some of them, even of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men, went to mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.
  • Five hundred of these invaders from the tribe of Simeon went to Mount Seir, led by Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel — all sons of Ishi.
  • And they smote the rest of the Amalekites that were escaped, and dwelt there unto this day.
  • They destroyed the few Amalekites who had survived, and they have lived there ever since.
