The Queen of Sheba

And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.

Когда царица Шевы услышала о славе Соломона, она пришла в Иерусалим, чтобы испытать его трудными вопросами. Прибыв с очень большой свитой, с верблюдами, везущими пряности и великое множество золота и драгоценных камней, она пришла к Соломону и говорила с ним обо всем, что было у нее на сердце.

And Solomon told her all her questions: and there was nothing hid from Solomon which he told her not.

Соломон ответил на все ее вопросы: для него не было ничего слишком трудного, чего он не смог бы ей объяснить.

And when the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built,

And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel; his cupbearers also, and their apparel; and his ascent by which he went up into the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.

еду у него на столе, жилища его приближенных, как прислуживают его слуги, как они одеты, каковы его виночерпии, как одеты они, и какие всесожжения он совершает в доме40 Господа, у нее захватило дух.

And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom:

Она сказала царю:
— Молва, которую я слышала в своей стране о твоих делах и мудрости, правдива,

Howbeit I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard.

но я не верила слухам, пока не пришла и не увидела это своими глазами. И что же, мне не рассказали и о половине твоей мудрости! Ты далеко превзошел ту молву, что я слышала.

Happy are thy men, and happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom.

Блаженны твои люди! Блаженны твои приближенные, которые всегда стоят перед тобой и внимают твоей мудрости!

Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the LORD thy God: because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, therefore made he thee king over them, to do judgment and justice.

Да будет благословен Господь, твой Бог, Который благоволит к тебе и посадил тебя царем на Своем престоле, чтобы ты правил для Господа, твоего Бога. Ради любви твоего Бога к Израилю, ради желания утвердить их навеки, Он сделал тебя его царем, чтобы ты поступал справедливо и праведно.

And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices great abundance, and precious stones: neither was there any such spice as the queen of Sheba gave king Solomon.

Она подарила царю сто двадцать талантов41 золота, великое множество пряностей и драгоценных камней. Никогда больше не было пряностей, подобных тем, что царица Шевы подарила царю Соломону.

And the servants also of Huram, and the servants of Solomon, which brought gold from Ophir, brought algum trees and precious stones.

Хирамовы люди и люди Соломона привозили золото из Офира. Еще они привезли красное дерево и драгоценные камни.

And the king made of the algum trees terraces to the house of the LORD, and to the king's palace, and harps and psalteries for singers: and there were none such seen before in the land of Judah.

Царь сделал из красного дерева лестницы42 для Господнего дома и для царского дворца, а также арфы и лиры для музыкантов. Прежде в Иудее не видели ничего подобного.

And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, beside that which she had brought unto the king. So she turned, and went away to her own land, she and her servants.

Царь Соломон подарил царице Шевы все, что она пожелала и о чем просила. Он подарил ей больше, чем она привезла ему. После этого она ушла и вернулась со свитой в свою страну.

Solomon's Wealth and Splendor

Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and threescore and six talents of gold;

Золота, которое Соломон получал ежегодно, было по весу шестьсот шестьдесят шесть талантов,43

Beside that which chapmen and merchants brought. And all the kings of Arabia and governors of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon.

не считая того дохода, что поступал от купцов и торговцев, и от всех царей Аравии и наместников страны тоже привозили Соломону золото и серебро.

And king Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold: six hundred shekels of beaten gold went to one target.

Царь Соломон сделал двести больших щитов из кованого золота, на каждый из которых пошло по шестьсот бек44 золота.

16

And three hundred shields made he of beaten gold: three hundred shekels of gold went to one shield. And the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

Еще он сделал триста маленьких щитов из кованого золота, на каждый щит по триста бек45 золота. Царь поместил их во дворце Ливанского леса.

Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold.

Еще царь сделал огромный трон, выложенный слоновой костью и покрытый чистым золотом.

And there were six steps to the throne, with a footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne, and stays on each side of the sitting place, and two lions standing by the stays:

У трона было шесть ступенек, и к нему было прикреплено золотое подножие. По обеим сторонам сиденья были подлокотники, и у каждого из них стояло по льву.

And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps. There was not the like made in any kingdom.

Двенадцать львов стояло на шести ступеньках — по одному с каждой стороны каждой ступеньки. Никогда ничего подобного не делалось ни в каком другом царстве.

20

And all the drinking vessels of king Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was not any thing accounted of in the days of Solomon.

Все чаши царя Соломона были золотыми, и вся домашняя утварь во дворце Ливанского леса была из чистого золота. Серебряного ничего не было, потому что серебро в дни Соломона не ценилось.

For the king's ships went to Tarshish with the servants of Huram: every three years once came the ships of Tarshish bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.

На море у царя был флот из таршишских кораблей с командой из слуг Хирама. Раз в три года корабли возвращались, привозя золото, серебро, слоновую кость, обезьян и павлинов.

And king Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.

Царь Соломон превосходил богатством и мудростью всех царей земли.

And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.

And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and raiment, harness, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.

And Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen; whom he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

У Соломона было четыре тысячи стойл для коней и колесниц и двенадцать тысяч коней,46 которых он держал в колесничных городах и у себя в Иерусалиме.

And he reigned over all the kings from the river even unto the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt.

Он правил всеми царями от Реки47 до земли филистимлян, до самой границы Египта.

And the king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the low plains in abundance.

В его правление серебро в Иерусалиме ценилось не выше простых камней, а кедра было так же много, как тутовых деревьев в предгорьях Иудеи.

And they brought unto Solomon horses out of Egypt, and out of all lands.

The Death of Solomon

Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddo the seer against Jeroboam the son of Nebat?

Что же до прочих событий правления Соломона, от первых до последних, то разве не описаны они в записях пророка Нафана, в пророчестве Ахии из Шило и в видениях провидца Иддо о Иеровоаме, сыне Навата?

And Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.

30

Соломон правил в Иерусалиме всем Израилем сорок лет.

And Solomon slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.

Потом он упокоился со своими предками и был похоронен в Городе Давида, своего отца. А Ровоам, его сын, стал царем вместо него.
