Zophar Rebukes Job

Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

Підхопивши Софар, мінеєць, сказав:

Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

Той, хто багато промовляє, і слухатиме відповідь. Хіба промовистий вважається праведним? Благословенний, народжений від жінки, хто має коротке життя.

Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

Не будь багатомовним, бо немає кому дати тобі відповідь.

4

For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.

Не говори: Я є чистий у вчинках і без пороку перед Ним!

But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

5

Але що, коли б Господь до тебе заговорив! А Він відкриє Свої уста до тебе!

6

And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

Тоді Він сповістить тобі силу мудрості, бо Він удвічі буде проти тебе. І тоді пізнаєш, що належне прийшло тобі від Господа за те, що ти згрішив!

Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

Хіба ти знайдеш стежку Господа, чи ти прийшов до останнього з того, що звершив Вседержитель?

It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

Небо високе, і що ти вдієш? А що глибше від тих, які в аді, ти знаєш?

The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

Чи довше від міри землі, чи від ширини моря?

10

If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?

Якщо ж Він знищить усе, хто скаже Йому: Що Ти вчинив?

11

For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?

Адже Він Сам знає діла беззаконних, бачачи невідповідне, Він не пропустить!

12

For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.

12

Людина ж надаремно пливе словами, — смертний, народжений від жінки, подібний до пустельного осла.

13

If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;

Адже коли ти зробив чистим своє серце, то підносиш до Нього руки,

14

If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.

14

коли ж щось беззаконне є у твоїх руках, то віддали його [1] від себе, і неправедність у твоєму житті хай не поселиться.

15

For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:

15

Бо таким чином твоє обличчя засяє, наче чиста вода, тож скинь нечистоту і не матимеш страху.

16

Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:

16

Ти забудеш про труднощі, наче про хвилю, яка проминула, і не боятимешся.

17

And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.

І молитва твоя буде наче рання зірка, — з полудня зійде тобі життя.

18

And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

Ти будеш упевненим, тому що в тебе є надія, а з турбот і занепокоєння в тебе з’явиться мир.

19

Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.

19

Бо заспокоїшся, і не буде того, хто воює проти тебе. А численні, які нападають, тебе благатимуть.

20

But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.

20

Спасіння ж їх покине, бо їхня надія — згуба, очі ж безбожних розтануть.
