Job Reproves his Friends

Lo, mine eye hath seen all this, mine ear hath heard and understood it.

1

От же все це вбачало око моє, чуло ухо моє й затямило собі.

2

What ye know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior unto you.

Скілько ви знаєте, знаю й я, бо я не пущий за вас.

3

Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.

3

Та я до Вседержителя рад би говорити, я з Богом бажав би розправляти.

4

But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value.

4

Ви ж тілько льжу куєте; всї ви лїкарі безварті.

5

O that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.

5

О, коли б ви мовчали! се була б ваша мудрість.

6

Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.

Слухайте ж мого осуду, й розважте відповідь із уст моїх:

7

Will ye speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?

7

Чи справдї належало вам задля Бога неправду сплїтати, й задля його льжу говорити?

8

Will ye accept his person? will ye contend for God?

8

Чи належало вам притворювятись перед ним і за Бога так змагатись?

9

Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do ye so mock him?

А на добре ж воно вийде, коли він схоче вас вивідувати? Чи й його ви так само ошукаєте, як оманють чоловіка?

10

He will surely reprove you, if ye do secretly accept persons.

10

Грізно скарає він вас, хоч ви потайно й притворюєтесь.

11

Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall upon you?

11

Чи вже ж велич його не страхає вас, і страх перед ним не нападає на вас?

12

Your remembrances are like unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.

12

Упомини ваші, як попіль, покрепи ваші — покрепи глиняні.

13

Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.

13

Замовчіте передо мною, а я буду говорити, хоч би й що менї сталось.

14

Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?

14

Чого ж би менї торгати тїло моє зубами моїми, й до життя мого простягати руку мою?

15

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

15

Ось, він убиває мене, та я не перестану надїятись; я бажаю лиш оборонити поступки мої перед лицем його.

16

He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.

16

А се вже буде оправданнєм менї, бо ж підлестник чей же не явиться перед лицем у його!

17

Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.

17

Вислухайте ж уважно слово моє й ясуваннє моє ушами вашими:

18

Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.

18

Ось, я завів суд над справою: знаю, що вийду виправданим.

19

Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.

19

Хто зможе стати проти мене? Бо я борзо вмовкну й віддам дух.

20

Only do not two things unto me: then will I not hide myself from thee.

20

Тілько двох речей не чини (Боже) зо мною, а тодї я не ховати мусь від обличчя у тебе:

21

Withdraw thine hand far from me: and let not thy dread make me afraid.

21

Одверни від мене руку твою, й страх перед тобою нехай не потрясає мене.

22

Then call thou, and I will answer: or let me speak, and answer thou me.

22

Тодї зви, а буду відповідати, або я говорити му, а ти відказуй менї.

23

How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.

23

Скілько ж у мене сказ і гріхів? Покажи менї проступок мій і гріх мій!

24

Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thine enemy?

24

За що ти скриваєш лице (ласку) твоє, й за ворога маєш мене собі?

25

Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? and wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?

25

Хочеш хиба стерти зірваний листочок, і за сухою соломинкою гнатись?

26

For thou writest bitter things against me, and makest me to possess the iniquities of my youth.

26

Пишеш бо засуд гіркий на мене й дописуєш менї гріхи з молодостї моєї;

27

Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks, and lookest narrowly unto all my paths; thou settest a print upon the heels of my feet.

27

Ноги мої в кайдани куєш, і всї стежки мої назираєш, і ходиш слїдом ніг моїх.

28

And he, as a rotten thing, consumeth, as a garment that is moth eaten.

28

Я ж, мов глина, розпадаюсь, як одежа, що її міль переїла.
