Eliphaz: Job Does Not Fear God
Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
Тогда Елифаз из Тимана ответил Иову:
Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
"Иов, когда б ты вправду мудрым был, не говорил бы ты слова пустые. Кто мудр, тот не настолько полон пустотой.
Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?
Ты думаешь, что мудрый стал бы спорить не стоящими ничего словами, речами, что не значат ничего?
Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.
Когда бы были у тебя, Иов, только твои пути, никто бы не верил в Бога и не молился бы Ему.
For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
Всё, что ты говоришь, твой грех изобличает, ты грех свой скрыть пытаешься, Иов, за умными словами.
Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.
И нет нужды доказывать, что ты неправ, поскольку собственными же устами ты доказал свою неправоту. Твои уста против тебя, Иов.
Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?
Ты думаешь, что ты родился первым? Ты что — рожден до сотворения холмов?
Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?
Ты в планы Бога посвящён, Иов? Ты думаешь, что лишь один ты мудрый?
What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?
Иов, мы знаем большее, чем ты, мы понимаем то, чего ты не понимаешь.
With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.
Все старики согласны с нами, все седые, и даже люди старше твоего отца — и те на нашей стороне.
Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?
Старается тебя Бог успокоить, но утешения недостаточно тебе. Мы весть тебе передаём от Бога довольно мягкими словами.
Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
Ну почему, Иов, не понимаешь ты и почему не можешь видеть правду?
That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?
Когда ты речи говоришь свои, ты выступаешь против Бога.
What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
Как может человек быть чистым? Как может праведнее Бога быть?
Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
Бог даже ангелам своим не доверяет. В сравненье с Богом даже небеса не столь чисты.
How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?
А человек намного хуже. Он грязен и разбит. Он зло, как воду пьёт.
I will shew thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;
Иов, послушай, расскажу тебе всё, что я знаю.
Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:
Тебе о мудростях я расскажу, поведанных и мне. Когда-то предки мудрых всё это расказали им, а эти люди секретов не имели от меня.
Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
Они в своей стране далёкой жили, и чужестранцы не пересекали их страну.
The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
И эти люди мудрые сказали: злой человек всю свою жизнь страдает. Все годы своей жизни страдает жестокий человек.
A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
Его пугает каждый шорох. Враг нападёт, когда он будет думать, что всё спокойно.
He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.
Он раздражён всегда; нет у него надежды на то, что избежит он темноты. И где-то на земле есть меч, который ждёт часа, чтоб убить его.
He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
Из края в край он бродит; его тело станет пищей для стервятников. Он сознает, что смерть его близка.
Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
Он в страхе от страданий и забот: они напали на него, как царь, несущий разрушенье.
For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
Всё это потому, что Богу он отказался подчиниться, он Богу угрожает кулаком и Всемогущего стремится победить.
He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:
Упрям тот человек, на Бога нападает под прикрытием щита.
Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.
Богатым, толстым человек быть может,
And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.
но его город разрушенье ждёт, дом его будет уничтожен и опустеет.
He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.
Не сможет злобный долго быть богатым: его богатство ненадолго, и урожай не вызреет большим.
He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
Он темноты не сможет избежать. Он будет словно дерево, чьи листья больны, и ветер их срывает.
Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.
Злой, веруя в нестоящие вещи, обманывать себя не должен — он не получит ничего.
It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
Он высохнет и постареет до того, как жизнь его окончится; он станет, как высохшая ветвь, которой уже вовек не зеленеть.
He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
Он будет словно виноградник, теряющий невызревшие гроздья, он будет, как олива, у которой опала завязь.
For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
Всё потому, что неимущ тот человек, в котором Бога нет. Дом обожающего деньги сожрёт огонь.
