Zophar: Triumph of the Wicked Short-lived
Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
Підхопивши, Софар, мінеєць, сказав:
Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.
Я не думав, що ти саме так відповіси, і не розумієте більше, ніж я.
I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.
Я послухаю докір моєї образи, і відповість мені дух розуму.
Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,
Хіба цього ти не знав віддавна, відколи людина постала на землі?
That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?
Адже веселість безбожних — страшне падіння, і радість беззаконних — згуба,
Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds;
хоч підіймуться до неба його дари, а його жертва доторкнеться до хмар.
Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
Бо коли цьому здаватиметься, що вже міцно стоїть, тоді він загине до кінця. А ті, хто його бачить, скажуть: Де він є?
He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.
Його не знайдуть, наче сон, що минув, — відлетів, наче нічний привид.
The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.
Око бачило його, та більше не побачить, і більше його не впізнає його місце.
His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
Хай його синів знищать менші, а його руки хай попалять болі.
His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.
Його кості наповнилися його молодістю, та з ним вона ляже в землю.
Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;
Якщо злоба буде солодкою в його устах, він її сховає під своїм язиком.
Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:
Не пощадить її, не покине її і збере її всередині своєї гортані.
Yet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.
І не зможе йому допомогти. Жовч аспіда в його шлунку!
He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.
Багатство, зібране без правди, буде виблюване, з його дому його витягне ангел.
He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him.
Нехай же ссе гнів змій, нехай же уб’є його язик змії.
He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.
Хай не побачить надоїв з пасовиськ, ані пасовиськ меду і масла.
That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.
Він надаремно і безглуздо трудився задля багатства, з якого не скуштує, воно, наче тверде м’ясо, не до жування, — не проковтнути.
Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;
Бо він знищив доми численних сильних, і житла пограбував, а не поставив.
Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.
Немає йому спасіння з майна, він не врятується своїм бажанням.
There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.
Немає в нього залишеної їжі. Через це його добро не розквітне.
In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.
Коли ж йому здається, що він вже наповнився, то він буде в біді, і на нього найде всяка біда.
When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.
Якщо якось наповнить свій живіт, Він нашле на нього гнів люті, щоб його залити болями.
He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.
І він не врятується від руки залізного леза, щоб його вбив мідний лук.
It is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him.
Нехай же стріла пройде крізь його тіло, і зірки хай ходять у його житлі, на ньому хай будуть страхи.
All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.
Хай на ньому перебуває всяка темрява. І його пожере невгасимий вогонь, нехай же чужинець несе зло його домові.
The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.
Нехай небо відкриє його беззаконня, а земля повстане проти нього.
The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
І знищення потягне дім його до кінця, і день гніву надійде на нього.
