King James Bible

New International Version

  • Bildad: Man Cannot Be Righteous

Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
  • Bildad

    Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:
  • Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places.
  • “Dominion and awe belong to God;
he establishes order in the heights of heaven.
  • Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?
  • Can his forces be numbered?
On whom does his light not rise?
  • How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?
  • How then can a mortal be righteous before God?
How can one born of woman be pure?
  • Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight.
  • If even the moon is not bright
and the stars are not pure in his eyes,
  • How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?
  • how much less a mortal, who is but a maggot —
a human being, who is only a worm!”
