Elihu Rebukes Job's Three Friends

So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

Тогда трое друзей перестали спорить с Иовом, потому что он был уверен в своей правоте.

Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.

Но Элигу, сын Барахела, потомок Буза, из рода Рам, разгневался на Иова за то, что тот считал себя праведным перед Богом.

Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

Он разгневался и на трех его друзей за то, что не сумев возразить, они клеветали на Иова.79

Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.

Но Элигу ждал, прежде чем заговорить с Иовом, потому что остальные были старше его.

When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.

Когда же он увидел, что тем троим нечего больше сказать, он разгневался.

And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.

И тогда Элигу, сын Барахела, потомок Буза, сказал:

— Я молод годами,
вы же в преклонных летах;
поэтому я и робел
и не смел вам высказать свое мнение.

I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

Я думал: «Пусть говорит возраст;
пусть преклонные годы учат мудрости».

But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

Но нет, это дух в человеке
и дыхание Всемогущего разум дают.

Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

Не одни старики80 мудры,
не одни престарелые знают правду.

10

Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.

Поэтому говорю я: «Внимайте мне!
Я тоже скажу вам, что знаю».

Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.

Я ждал, пока вы говорили,
суждения ваши слушал;
пока вы искали слова,

Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words:

я вглядывался в вас.
Но никто из вас Иова не опроверг,
на слова его не ответил.

Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.

Не говорите: «Мы мудрость нашли:
пусть Бог обличает его, а не человек».

14

Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.

Если бы против меня он обратил речь свою,
то я не как вы отвечал бы ему.

They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.

Они испугались и больше не отвечают,
слов у них не осталось.

16

When I had waited, (for they spake not, but stood still, and answered no more;)

Ждать ли мне, раз они замолчали,
раз они стоят здесь, не отвечая?

I said, I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.

Мне ведь тоже есть что сказать,
я тоже выскажу свое мнение.

For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.

Я переполнен словами,
дух во мне побуждает меня.

19

Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.

Сердце мое, как вино неоткрытое,
как новые бурдюки, готовые разорваться.

20

I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.

20

Заговорю и найду покой;
разомкну уста свои и отвечу;

21

Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.

21

не буду смотреть ни на чье лицо
и льстить никому не стану,

22

For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.

22

ведь я не умею льстить —
иначе скоро убил бы меня мой Творец!
