King James Bible

New Living Translation

  • Song of the Slandered

    {To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.} Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;
  • For the choir director: A psalm of David.

    O God, whom I praise,
    don’t stand silent and aloof
  • For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
  • while the wicked slander me
    and tell lies about me.
  • They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.
  • They surround me with hateful words
    and fight against me for no reason.
  • For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.
  • I love them, but they try to destroy me with accusations
    even as I am praying for them!
  • And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.
  • They repay evil for good,
    and hatred for my love.
  • Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
  • They say,a “Get an evil person to turn against him.
    Send an accuser to bring him to trial.
  • When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.
  • When his case comes up for judgment,
    let him be pronounced guilty.
    Count his prayers as sins.
  • Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
  • Let his years be few;
    let someone else take his position.
  • Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
  • May his children become fatherless,
    and his wife a widow.
  • Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
  • May his children wander as beggars
    and be driven fromb their ruined homes.
  • Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.
  • May creditors seize his entire estate,
    and strangers take all he has earned.
  • Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.
  • Let no one be kind to him;
    let no one pity his fatherless children.
  • Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
  • May all his offspring die.
    May his family name be blotted out in the next generation.
  • Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
  • May the LORD never forget the sins of his fathers;
    may his mother’s sins never be erased from the record.
  • Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
  • May the LORD always remember these sins,
    and may his name disappear from human memory.
  • Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.
  • For he refused all kindness to others;
    he persecuted the poor and needy,
    and he hounded the brokenhearted to death.
  • As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.
  • He loved to curse others;
    now you curse him.
    He never blessed others;
    now don’t you bless him.
  • As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.
  • Cursing is as natural to him as his clothing,
    or the water he drinks,
    or the rich food he eats.
  • Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.
  • Now may his curses return and cling to him like clothing;
    may they be tied around him like a belt.”
  • Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul.
  • May those curses become the LORD’s punishment
    for my accusers who speak evil of me.
  • But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name's sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.
  • But deal well with me, O Sovereign LORD,
    for the sake of your own reputation!
    Rescue me
    because you are so faithful and good.
  • For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.
  • For I am poor and needy,
    and my heart is full of pain.
  • I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.
  • I am fading like a shadow at dusk;
    I am brushed off like a locust.
  • My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness.
  • My knees are weak from fasting,
    and I am skin and bones.
  • I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.
  • I am a joke to people everywhere;
    when they see me, they shake their heads in scorn.
  • Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy:
  • Help me, O LORD my God!
    Save me because of your unfailing love.
  • That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it.
  • Let them see that this is your doing,
    that you yourself have done it, LORD.
  • Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.
  • Then let them curse me if they like,
    but you will bless me!
    When they attack me, they will be disgraced!
    But I, your servant, will go right on rejoicing!
  • Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.
  • May my accusers be clothed with disgrace;
    may their humiliation cover them like a cloak.
  • I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.
  • But I will give repeated thanks to the LORD,
    praising him to everyone.
  • For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.
  • For he stands beside the needy,
    ready to save them from those who condemn them.
