King James Bible

English Standard Version

  • Why Do You Boast of Mischief?

    {To the chief Musician, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech.} Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.
  • The Steadfast Love of God Endures

    To the choirmaster. A Maskila of David, when Doeg, the Edomite, came and told Saul, “David has come to the house of Ahimelech.”

    Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man?
    The steadfast love of God endures all the day.
  • Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp rasor, working deceitfully.
  • Your tongue plots destruction,
    like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit.
  • Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
  • You love evil more than good,
    and lying more than speaking what is right. Selah
  • Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.
  • You love all words that devour,
    O deceitful tongue.
  • God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
  • But God will break you down forever;
    he will snatch and tear you from your tent;
    he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah
  • The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:
  • The righteous shall see and fear,
    and shall laugh at him, saying,
  • Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.
  • “See the man who would not make
    God his refuge,
    but trusted in the abundance of his riches
    and sought refuge in his own destruction!”b
  • But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.
  • But I am like a green olive tree
    in the house of God.
    I trust in the steadfast love of God
    forever and ever.
  • I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.
  • I will thank you forever,
    because you have done it.
    I will wait for your name, for it is good,
    in the presence of the godly.
