Laws for Servants
Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.
Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.
А це настанови, які викладеш перед ними.
If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.
Якщо купиш раба-єврея, то нехай шість років він працює для тебе, а на сьомий рік нехай він даром вийде на свободу.
If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.
Якщо він сам-один прийшов, то нехай сам і вийде. Якщо ж разом з ним прийшла дружина, то нехай і дружина вийде з ним.
If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.
Якщо ж господар дасть йому дружину, і та народить йому синів чи дочок, то дружина й діти хай залишаються в його господаря, а він нехай вийде сам.
And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
Якщо ж раб у відповідь скаже: Я люблю мого господаря, дружину і дітей, — не поспішаю на волю!
Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.
Тоді нехай його господар приведе його до Божого судилища, а тоді приведе його до дверей і до одвірка, і господар шилом проколе йому вухо, і той служитиме йому навіки.
And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.
Якщо ж хтось продасть свою дочку як служницю, то не вийде вона так, як виходять рабині.
If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her.
Якщо вона не догодить своєму господареві, з яким заручена, то нехай звільнить її за викуп. А чужому народові йому не дозволяється продати її, бо погордив нею.
And if he have betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.
Якщо ж заручив її синові, то нехай обходиться з нею за правами дочок.
If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.
Якщо ж візьме йому іншу, то хай не позбавить її необхідного, одягу і співжиття.
And if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out free without money.
Якщо ж цих трьох речей не дотримається щодо неї, то нехай вона вийде даром, без грошей.
Personal Injury Laws
He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.
He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.
Якщо хтось когось ударить, і той помре, — він неодмінно має померти [1].
And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee.
А тому, хто не хотів убивати, але Бог передав когось в його руки, — Я дам тобі місце, куди втече той, хто вбив.
But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.
Коли ж хто вистежив, щоб підступно вбити свого ближнього, і прибіжить туди, — такого забрати і від Мого жертовника, щоб видати на смерть.
And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.
Хто б’є свого батька чи свою матір, має неодмінно померти [2].
And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.
Хто проклинає свого батька чи свою матір, має неодмінно померти [3].
And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.
Коли хтось украде когось із синів Ізраїля, заволодіє ним, продасть, і срібло буде знайдене в нього — такий має неодмінно померти [4].
And if men strive together, and one smite another with a stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keepeth his bed:
Якщо ж сваряться два чоловіки, і один з них ударить ближнього каменем чи кулаком, і той не помре, а зляже в ліжко,
If he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed.
і якщо чоловік устане та вийде з палицею надвір, тоді той, хто вдарив, буде звільнений від покарання. Лише нехай заплатить за втрату від його непрацездатності та за лікування.
And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.
Якщо хтось вдарить свого раба чи свою рабиню палицею, — так, що помре від його руки, той має бути неодмінно покараний [5].
Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.
Та коли проживе один день чи два, то не буде покараний, бо це — його гроші.
If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
Якщо б’ються два чоловіки, і вдарять вагітну жінку, і її дитина появиться на світ не повністю сформованою, то такий неодмінно понесе кару [6] , — він заплатить згідно з оцінкою, яку зробить чоловік жінки.
And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
Та якщо дитина буде повністю сформована, то нехай дасть душу за душу,
Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
око за око, руку за руку, зуб за зуб, ногу за ногу,
Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
опік за опік, рану за рану, синець за синця.
And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye's sake.
Якщо хтось виб’є око своєму рабові чи око своїй рабині, і вони осліпнуть, то нехай відпустить їх на волю за їхнє око;
And if he smite out his manservant's tooth, or his maidservant's tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake.
і якщо виб’є зуб рабові або зуб своїй рабині, — нехай відпустить їх на волю за їхній зуб.
If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit.
Якщо віл рогами заколе чоловіка чи жінку, — так, що помре, то вола обов’язково поб’ють камінням [7] , і його м’ясо не будуть їсти, а власник вола — невинний.
But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.
Якщо ж віл бив рогами вчора й третього дня, і про це попереджували його власника, але той не зарізав його, то коли рогами вб’є чоловіка чи жінку, нехай віл буде побитий камінням, і його власник також нехай буде покараний на смерть.
If there be laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatsoever is laid upon him.
А якщо на нього накладуть викуп, то нехай за свою душу дасть викуп, який лише на нього накладуть.
Whether he have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done unto him.
І якщо рогами заколе сина чи дочку, — нехай учинять з ним за цим же приписом.
If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.
Якщо ж віл заколе рогами раба чи рабиню, — нехай власник вола дасть їхньому господареві тридцять дідрахм срібла, а вола поб’ють камінням.
Laws about Restitution
And if a man shall open a pit, or if a man shall dig a pit, and not cover it, and an ox or an ass fall therein;
And if a man shall open a pit, or if a man shall dig a pit, and not cover it, and an ox or an ass fall therein;
Якщо хтось відкриє яму чи викопає яму і її не закриє, а туди впаде теля чи осел,
The owner of the pit shall make it good, and give money unto the owner of them; and the dead beast shall be his.
то власник ями відшкодує: їхньому господареві він заплатить гроші, а те, що загинуло, буде його.
And if one man's ox hurt another's, that he die; then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the money of it; and the dead ox also they shall divide.
Якщо ж чийсь віл рогами заколе сусіднього вола, і той здохне, то живого вола продадуть і розділять його ціну, і поділять вола, який загинув.
Or if it be known that the ox hath used to push in time past, and his owner hath not kept him in; he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead shall be his own.
Та якщо було відомо, що віл колов рогами вчора і третього дня, і про це попередили його власника, але той не зарізав його, то він віддасть вола за вола, а мертвий буде його.
