    My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
  • Another Warning about Immoral Women

    Follow my advice, my son;
    always treasure my commands.
  • Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
  • Obey my commands and live!
    Guard my instructions as you guard your own eyes.a
  • Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
  • Tie them on your fingers as a reminder.
    Write them deep within your heart.
  • Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
  • Love wisdom like a sister;
    make insight a beloved member of your family.
  • That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
  • Let them protect you from an affair with an immoral woman,
    from listening to the flattery of a promiscuous woman.
  • For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
  • While I was at the window of my house,
    looking through the curtain,
  • And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

    and one in particular who lacked common sense.

  • I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.

    and fulfilled my vows.
  • Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

    I came out to find you, and here you are!
  • I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

    with colored sheets of Egyptian linen.
  • I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

  • Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

  • With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

    like an ox going to the slaughter.
    He was like a stag caught in a trap,c
  • Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

    He was like a bird flying into a snare,
    little knowing it would cost him his life.
  • Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
  • So listen to me, my sons,
    and pay attention to my words.
  • Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
  • Don’t let your hearts stray away toward her.
    Don’t wander down her wayward path.
  • For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
  • For she has been the ruin of many;
    many men have been her victims.
  • Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
