І промовив до мене Господь: Якщо став би Мойсей й Самуїл перед лицем Моїм, — то душа Моя до наро́ду цього́ не звернулася б! Віджени їх із-перед Мого лиця, і нехай повихо́дять!
And it shall come to pass, if they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the LORD; Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for the captivity, to the captivity.
І буде, як скажуть до тебе вони: „Куди пі́демо?“ то скажеш до них: Так говорить Господь: Хто на смерть — ті на смерть, і хто на меча́ — на меча́, і хто на го́лод — на го́лод, а хто до поло́ну — в поло́н.
And I will appoint over them four kinds, saith the LORD: the sword to slay, and the dogs to tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and destroy.
І Я навіщу́ їх чотирьома́ способа́ми, говорить Госпо́дь: мечем, щоб побити, і псами, щоб їх волочи́ти, і пта́ством небесним, і земно́ю звіри́ною, щоб же́рли та ни́щили.
And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.
І Я дам їх на по́страх усім ца́рствам землі за Манасі́ю, Єзекіїного сина, царя Юдиного, за те, що́ зробив був він в Єрусалимі.
For who shall have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who shall bemoan thee? or who shall go aside to ask how thou doest?
Бо хто зми́лується над тобою, о Єрусалиме? І хто співчуття́ тобі ви́явить? І хто зве́рне з путі, щоб тебе запита́ти про пово́дження?
Thou hast forsaken me, saith the LORD, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting.
Ти покинув Мене, — промовляє Господь, — відступи́вся наза́д, тому Я простягнув Свою руку на те́бе, і знищив тебе́, — утоми́вся Я жа́лувати!
And I will fan them with a fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave them of children, I will destroy my people, since they return not from their ways.
І ві́ячкою їх розві́яв по бра́мах землі, позбавив дітей, і погуби́в Свій наро́д, бо вони не верну́лись з доріг неправдивих своїх,
Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a spoiler at noonday: I have caused him to fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city.
— у Мене більше було́ його вдів, як морсько́го піску́! А на матір юна́цтва, — спровадив опі́вдні грабі́жника їм, нагло кинув на неї страхі́ття та жах, —
She that hath borne seven languisheth: she hath given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while it was yet day: she hath been ashamed and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith the LORD.
зомлі́ла вона, що сімо́х породила, ви́дихнула свою душу, зайшло сонце її, коли був іще день, засоро́милася та збенте́жилась. А решту їх Я дам під меча́ перед їхніми ворогами, говорить Господь.
Jeremiah's Complaint
Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor men have lent to me on usury; yet every one of them doth curse me.

Горе мені, моя мати, що ти породила такого мене́, чоловіка сварли́вого та чоловіка сутя́жного для всієї землі! Ніко́му я не позича́в, і ніхто мені не боргува́в, та всі проклинають мене́.
The LORD said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant; verily I will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.
Промовив Господь: Я справді підси́лю на добре тебе, Я справді вчиню́, що проси́тиме ворог тебе́ за час зла й за час у́тиску!
Shall iron break the northern iron and the steel?
Чи можна зламати залі́зом залі́зо із пі́вночі й мідь?
Thy substance and thy treasures will I give to the spoil without price, and that for all thy sins, even in all thy borders.
Багатство твоє й твої ска́рби на здо́бич віддам, і не за ці́ну, але́ за гріхи твої всі, у всіх границях твоїх.
And I will make thee to pass with thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you.
І вчиню́, що ти будеш служити своїм ворогам у тім кра́ї, якого не знаєш, бо огонь запала́в в Моїм гніві, і над вами пала́тиме він!
O LORD, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke.
Ти, Господи, знаєш усе, — згадай же мене́ й заступися за ме́не, і помсти́ся над тими, що го́нять мене! На до́вгу Свою терпеливість до них мене не бери, знай, що сором носив я за Тебе!
Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
Як тільки слова́ Твої знахо́дилися, то я їх поїда́в, і було слово Твоє мені радістю і втіхою серця мого́, бо кли́калось Йме́ння Твоє надо мною, о Господи, Боже Савао́те!
I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.
Не сидів я на зборі весе́лому та не радів, — через руку Твою я самі́тний сидів, бо Ти гнівом напо́внив мене.
Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?
Чому біль мій став вічний, а рана моя невиго́йна, що не хоче заго́їтись? Чи справді Ти станеш мені як обма́нний поті́к, що во́ди його висиха́ють?
The Lord's Promise
Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.

Тому́ Господь так відказав: Якщо ти наве́рнешся, то тебе́ приверну́, і перед лицем Моїм станеш, а як здобу́деш дорогоці́нне з нікче́много, бу́деш як у́ста Мої: до тебе самі вони зве́рнуться, а не ти до них зве́рнешся!
And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
І дам Я тебе для оцьо́го наро́ду за му́ра міцно́го із міді, і будуть вони воювати з тобою, та не перемо́жуть тебе: бо Я буду з тобою, щоб спасати тебе й щоб тебе рятува́ти, говорить Господь!
