Господь сказал: "Пойдите по улицам Иерусалима, поищите на площади. Быть может вы найдёте хотя бы одного человека, который честен и который ищет правды? Тогда прощу Я весь Иерусалим.
And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.
Хотя кругом и говорят все: "Жив Господь", но этим не живёт никто из них".
O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
О Господи, я знаю: хочешь Ты, чтоб люди были верными Тебе; Ты бьёшь их, но они не ощущают боли. Ты наказал их, но они не извлекли урока. Они упрямятся и не желают покаяться в своих грехах.
Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.
Но я себе сказал: "Возможно, это бедняки. Они глупы, несчастны и не знают путей Господних и ученья Бога.
I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.
Пойду с правителями Иудеи поговорю — они, конечно, знают пути Господние; уверен — они знают законы Бога своего". Но и они объединились все, чтоб уклониться от служенья Богу.
Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
Они спиною повернулись к Богу — и лев лесной набросится на них, и волк пустынный растерзает, и барс их возле стен подстережёт, и каждого, кто выйдет, разорвёт, поскольку вновь и вновь они грешили, от Господа всё дальше отходя.
How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.
"Дай, Иудея, повод, чтоб Я простил тебя. Все твои дети Меня покинули, все они идолам клялись, но эти идолы не боги. Я дал им всё, что нужно, но они все неверны мне, в прелюбодеянии они проводят много времени.
They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.

Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
Я должен наказать людей за это, — сказал Господь, — Я должен наказать народ, живущий так. Я накажу их по заслугам.
Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD'S.
Пойди по виноградникам, руби их, но полностью не разрушай, сруби все ветви, потому что не Господу они принадлежат.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
Во всём Мне были неверны род Израиля, род Иуды". Так говорит Господь.
They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:
"Они о Господе лгали, говоря: "Господь нам ничего не сделает, плохого ничего не будет с нами, мы не увидим никогда ни голода, ни армии врага".
And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
Неверные пророки — это ветер. Господнего нет слова в них, и к ним придёт беда".
Judgment Proclaimed
Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

Господь, Бог Всемогущий, сказал: "Слова, Иеремия, которые тебе даю Я, будут как огонь для тех, кто говорил, что Я не накажу; и эти люди будут вместо дерева, которое огонь сожжёт дотла".
Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
"Семья Израиля, это Господня весть. Я скоро приведу народы издалека, чтоб на тебя напали. Народ тот древний, и ты не знаешь языка его, ты не поймёшь их речи.
Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.
Его колчаны, как раскрытые могилы, мужчины все в народе том сильны.
And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.
Они съедят весь урожай твой, всю еду и уничтожат сыновей и дочерей; они съедят твои отары и стада, твой виноград и смоквы. Они разрушат крепкими мечами все города, в которых ты уверен.
Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.
Но и когда наступят те времена ужасные, — это слова Господа — Я вас не уничтожу до конца.
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
"Иеремия, — спросят люди Иудеи, — за что Господь всё это нам послал?" Дай им ответ: "Вы идолам служили чужим в своей земле, от Бога отвернулись, — вы это сделали и будете теперь в земле чужой служить чужеземцам"".
Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
Сказал Господь: "Поведай весть семье Иакова, всем людям Иудеи:
Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:
"Слушайте, глупые и неразумные люди, у вас есть глаза, но вы не видите, уши у вас есть, но вы не слышите".
Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
Вы, конечно, боитесь Меня, — сказал Господь, — вы дрожать должны от страха предо Мною, Я тот, Кто создал берега, чтоб оградить моря, чтобы всегда вода была на месте; и сколько бы ни бились в берег волны, они его разрушить не сумеют, и сколько бы они ни бушевали, пределы берега они не перейдут.
But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.
Но люди Иудеи одержимы упрямством: они вечно ищут, как отвернуться от Меня — спиною повернулись и пошли.
Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
Они никогда не говорят себе: "Давайте трепетать и уважать Бога нашего, Который даёт нам дождь и осенью, и весной, и всё, что нужно, чтобы вовремя собрать наш урожай".
Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.
Вы, люди Иудеи, сотворили зло, поэтому и не пришли дожди — грехи удерживали вас от всего доброго, дарованного Богом.
For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.
Среди людей Моих немало злых: они, как птицеловы, ставят свои ловушки — на людей, они охотятся, но не на птиц.
As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.
Дома их лжи полны, как клетки птиц, ложь принесла им силу и богатство,
They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
и стали грузными и жирными они. Нету предела их злу; в суде они не говорят правды, они не помогают сироте; для человека бедного в суде у них нет справедливости.
Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
Должен ли Я наказать людей Иудеи?" Так говорит Господь: "Ты знаешь, что такой народ, как этот, Я должен по заслугам наказать".
A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;
