Korah's Rebellion

Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:

1

І взяли Коре́й, син Їцгара, сина Кегата, сина Левієвого, і Дата́н, і Авіро́н, сини Еліявові, та Он, син Пелета, сини Руви́мові,

2

And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:

2

та й повстали проти Мойсея, а з ними двісті й п'ятдеся́т мужа Ізраїлевих синів, начальники громади, закли́кувані на збори, люди вельможні.

3

And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

І зібра́лися вони на Мойсея та на Ааро́на, та й сказали до них: „До́сить вам, бо вся громада — усі вони святі, а серед них Госпо́дь! І чому́ ви несе́теся понад зборами Господніми?“

And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:

4

І почув це Мойсей, та й упав на обличчя своє.

5

And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.

5

І промовив він до Коре́я та до всієї громади його, говорячи: „Уранці Господь дасть знати, хто́ Його та хто́ святий, щоб набли́зити його до Себе; а кого вибере, того Він і набли́зить до Себе.

6

This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;

6

Зробіть ви оце: візьміть собі кадильниці, Коре́ю та вся громадо твоя́,

7

And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.

7

і дайте в них огню та покладіть на них кадила перед Господнє лице взавтра. І станеться, — той чоловік, що Господь його вибере, — він святий. До́сить вам, Левієві сини!“

8

And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:

І сказав Мойсей до Корея: „Слухайте ж, Левієві сини, —

9

Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?

9

чи вам мало, що Бог Ізраїлів відділив вас від Ізраїлевої громади, щоб набли́зити вас до Се́бе, і щоб ви виконували службу Господньої скинії, і стояли перед громадою, щоб служити їй?

10

And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?

10

І Він набли́зив тебе та всіх братів твоїх, Левієвих синів, із тобою; а ти будеш домагатися ще й свяще́нства?

11

For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?

11

Тому ти та вся громада твоя змовилися проти Господа. А Ааро́н, — що́ він, що ви ремствуєте проти нього?“

12

And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:

I послав Мойсей та Ааро́н закли́кати Дата́на й Авіро́на, синів Еліявових, та сказали вони: „Не ви́йдемо!

13

Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?

13

Чи мало того, що ти вивів нас із кра́ю, який тече́ молоком та медом, щоб повбивати нас у пустині? Хочеш ще панувати над нами, щоб бути також вельмо́жею?

14

Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.

Ти не впровадив нас ані до кра́ю, що тече молоком та медом, ані не дав нам на власність поля́ та виноградники. Чи ти ви́береш очі цим лю́дям? Не вийдемо!“

15

And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

А Мойсей сильно запалився, та й сказав до Господа: „Не обернися до їхнього прино́шення! Я не взяв від них жодного осла, і зла не вчинив жодному з них!“

16

And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the LORD, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow:

16

І сказав Мойсей до Коре́я: „Ти та вся громада твоя будьте перед Господнім лицем, ти й вони та Ааро́н узавтра.

17

And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.

17

І візьміть кожен свою кади́льницю, і покладіть на неї кадила та й принесе́те перед Господнє лице кожен кади́льницю свою, двісті й п'ятдеся́т кадильниць, і ти та Ааро́н, кожен кадильницю свою“.

18

And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.

18

І взяли кожен кадильницю свою, і поклали на них огню, і поклали на неї кадила, та й стали при вході скинії заповіту, а також Мойсей та Аарон.

19

And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.

19

І Коре́й зібрав на них усю громаду до входу скинії заповіту. І показалася слава Господня всій громаді!

20

And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

20

І промовив Господь до Мойсея та до Аароиа, говорячи:

21

Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.

21

„Відділіться від цієї громади, — Я винищу їх умить!“

22

And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?

22

А вони попа́дали на обличчя свої та й сказали: „Боже, Боже духів і кожного тіла! Як згрішить один чоловік, чи Ти будеш гніватися на всю громаду?“

23

Moses Separates the People

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

23

І Господь промовляв до Мойсея, говорячи:

24

Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

24

„Скажи до громади, говорячи: Відступіться зо всіх боків від місця ме́шкання Коре́я, Дата́на й Авіро́на!“

25

And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

25

І встав Мойсей, і пішов до Датана та Авірона, і пішли за ним ста́рші Ізраїлеві.

26

And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.

26

І він промовляв до громади, говорячи: „Відступіть від наметів тих несправедливих людей, і не доторкніться до всьо́го, що їхнє, щоб і ви не загинули за всі їхні гріхи!“

27

So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.

27

І вони відступи́лися від місця ме́шкання Корея, Датана й Авірона зо всіх боків; а Дата́н та Авіро́н вийшли, і стояли при вході наметів своїх, і жінки́ їх, і сини їх, та діти їхні.

28

And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.

28

І сказав Мойсей: „Оцим пізнаєте, що Господь послав мене зробити всі діла́ ці, що вони не з моєї ви́гадки.

29

If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me.

29

Якщо вони повмирають, як умирає кожна люди́на, і їх спіткає доля кожної люди́ни, то не Господь послав мене!

30

But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.

30

А коли Господь створить щось нове́, і земля відкриє уста свої та й поглине їх та все, що їхнє, і вони зі́йдуть живі до шео́лу, то пізнаєте, що люди обра́зили Господа“.

31

The Earth Swallows Up Korah

And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:

31

І сталося, як скінчи́в він говорити всі ці слова́, то розступи́лася та земля, що під ними!

32

And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

32

А земля відкрила свої уста, та й поглинула їх, і доми́ їхні, і кожну люди́ну, що Кореєва, та ввесь їх має́ток.

33

They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

33

І зійшли вони та все, що їхнє, живі до шео́лу, і накрила їх земля, і вони погинули з-посеред збору!

34

And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

34

А ввесь Ізра́їль, що був навко́ло них, повтікав на їхній крик, бо казали: „Щоб земля не поглинула й нас!“

35

And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

35

І вийшов огонь від Господа, та й поїв тих двісті й п'ятдеся́т чоловіка, що прино́сили кадило!
