The Transfiguration

And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,

А через шість день забирає Ісус Петра, і Якова, і Івана, брата його, та й веде їх осі́бно на го́ру високу.

2

And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

І Він перед ними переобрази́вся: обличчя Його, як те сонце, зася́ло, а одежа Його стала біла, як світло.

3

And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

3

І ось з'явились до них Мойсей та Ілля́, і розмовляли із Ним.

4

Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

4

І озвався Петро та й сказав до Ісуса: „Господи, до́бре бути нам тут! Коли хочеш, поста́влю оту́т три шатра: для Тебе одне, і одне для Мойсея, і одне для Іллі“.

While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Як він ще говорив, ось хмара ясна заслони́ла їх, і ось голос із хмари почувсь, що казав: „Це Син Мій Улю́блений, що Його Я вподо́бав. Його слухайтеся!“

And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

6

А почувши, попа́дали учні долі́лиць, і полякалися сильно.

7

And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

7

А Ісус підійшов, доторкнувся до них і промовив: „Уставайте й не бійтесь!“

8

And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

8

Звівши ж очі свої, ніко́го вони не побачили, окрім Само́го Ісуса.

9

And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.

9

А коли з гори схо́дили, заповів їм Ісус і сказав: „Не кажіть ніко́му про це виді́ння, аж поки Син Лю́дський із мертвих воскре́сне“.

10

And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?

10

І запитали Його учні, говорячи: „Що́ це книжники кажуть, ніби треба Іллі́ перш прийти?“

11

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

11

А Він відповів і сказав: „Ілля́, правда, при́йде, і все приготу́є.

12

But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

12

Але́ кажу вам, що Ілля́ вже прийшов був, — та його не пізнали, але з ним зробили, що тільки хотіли. Так і Син Лю́дський має страждати від них“.

13

Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

Учні тоді зрозуміли, що Він їм говорив про Івана Христителя.

14

Jesus Heals a Boy with a Demon

And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

І як вони до наро́ду прийшли, то до Нього один чоловік приступив, і навко́лішки впав перед Ним,

15

Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

15

і сказав: „Господи, змилуйсь над сином моїм, що біснується у новомі́сяччі, і мучиться тяжко, бо почасту падає він ув огонь, і почасту в воду.

16

And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

16

Я його був привів до учнів Твоїх, — та вони не могли вздорови́ти його“.

17

Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

17

А Ісус відповів і сказав: „О роде невірний і розбе́щений, доки бу́ду Я з вами? Доки вас Я терпітиму? Приведіть до Мене сюди його!“

18

And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

18

Пото́му Ісус погрози́в йому, і де́мон вийшов із нього. І видужав хлопець тієї години!

19

Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

19

Тоді підійшли учні насамоті́ до Ісуса й сказали: „Чому ми́ не могли його вигнати?“

20

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

А Він їм відповів: „Через ваше невірство. Бо поправді кажу́ вам: коли будете ви мати віру, хоч як зе́рно гірчи́чне, і горі оцій скажете: „Перейди́ звідси туди“, то й пере́йде вона, і нічо́го не матимете неможливого!

21

Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

21

Цей же рід не вихо́дить інакше, як тільки молитвою й по́стом“.

22

Jesus Again Predicts Death, Resurrection

And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

22

Коли пробува́ли вони в Галіле́ї, то сказав їм Ісус: „Людський Син буде ви́даний лю́дям до рук,

23

And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

23

і вони Його вб'ють, але третього дня Він воскре́сне“. І тяжко вони зажурились.

24

The Temple Tax

And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?

Як прийшли ж вони в Капернау́м, до Петра підійшли збирачі́ дидра́хм на храм, та й сказали: „Чи не запла́тить ваш Учитель дидра́хми?“

25

He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?

25

Він відказує: „Так“. І як він увійшов до дому, то Ісус попере́див його та сказав: „Як ти ду́маєш, Си́моне: царі зе́мні з кого беру́ть мито або пода́тки: від синів своїх, чи чужих?“

26

Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.

26

А як той відказав: „Від чужих“, то промовив до нього Ісус: „Тож вільні сини!

27

Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

27

Та щоб їх не спокуси́ти, піди над море, та ву́дку закинь, і яку першу рибу ізло́виш, візьми, і рота відкрий їй, — і зна́йдеш стати́ра; візьми ти його, — і віддай їм за Мене й за себе“.
