Jesus Heals a Man with Dropsy

And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

И спросил тогда Иисус законников и фарисеев: "Законно ли исцелять людей в субботу?"

And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

4

Но те молчали. Тогда Иисус взял этого человека, исцелил его и отослал домой.

And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?

5

Потом Он сказал им: "Если у кого-то из вас сын упадёт в колодец или рабочая скотина, неужели вы не вытащите его оттуда немедленно, если даже это и произойдёт в субботний день?"

And they could not answer him again to these things.

И они не смогли ничего ответить на это.

The Parable of the Guests

And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,

Иисус заметил, что некоторые из гостей выбирают для себя за столом самые почётные места. Тогда Он рассказал такую притчу:

When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

"Если тебя пригласили на свадебный пир, не старайся занять самое почётное место, ибо может случиться, что кто-то более известный, чем ты, тоже приглашён,

9

And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

9

и тогда тот, кто позвал тебя на пир, подойдёт к тебе и скажет: "Уступи место этому человеку", и тебе придётся с позором занять за столом самое непочётное место.

10

But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

Если ты приглашён на пир, придя туда, займи самое непочётное место, тогда тот, кто пригласил тебя, подойдёт к тебе и скажет: "Друг, займи более почётное место", и ты возвысишься в глазах всех сидящих за столом.

For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Ибо всякий, кто возвышает сам себя, унижен будет, тот же, кто принижает себя, будет возвышен".

Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

И ещё сказал Он, обращаясь к пригласившему Его фарисею: "Когда устраиваешь званый обед или ужин, не приглашай одних только друзей, или братьев, или родственников, или богатых соседей, надеясь на ответное приглашение, чтобы они воздали тебе тем же.

But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

Но когда созываешь гостей, приглашай к себе бедных и увечных, хромых и слепых,

14

And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

14

и благословен будешь, ибо у них нет средств, чтобы вознаградить тебя в ответ. Бог вознаградит тебя в тот час, когда все праведные восстанут из мёртвых".

The Parable of the Banquet

And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

Один из тех, кто сидел за столом вместе с Иисусом, услышал это и сказал Иисусу: "Блажен будет каждый, кто будет есть в Царстве Божьем!"

Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

Но Иисус сказал ему: "Некий человек устроил званый обед и пригласил множество гостей,

17

And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

17

и когда наступил час обеда, он послал своего слугу оповестить всех приглашённых: "Приходите, ибо всё готово".

18

And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

18

Но гости отказались прийти, и каждый при этом дал своё объяснение. Один сказал: "Извини, но я купил землю, и мне нужно пойти взглянуть на неё".

19

And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

19

А другой сказал: "Я купил пять пар быков, и мне необходимо посмотреть, как они пашут, прошу, извини моё отсутствие".

20

And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

20

И третий сказал: "Я только что женился и потому не могу прийти на обед".

21

So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

Слуга вернулся домой и передал всё это господину. Рассердившись, господин сказал слуге: "Обойди все улицы и переулки города и приведи сюда нищих, и увечных, и слепых, и калек".

And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

Немного погодя слуга сказал: "Господин, всё исполнено, но за столом ещё много места".

23

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

23

Тогда господин сказал слуге: "Пойди по дорогам и просёлкам и созови сюда всех, кого там увидишь, чтоб мой дом был полон народа.

24

For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

24

Ибо, говорю тебе, никто из приглашённых мною раньше больше никогда не будет у меня на пиру".

The Cost of Following Jesus

And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

Множество народа шло с Иисусом. Обернувшись, Он сказал им:

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

26

"Если кто приходит ко Мне, любя отца и мать, жену и детей, братьев, сестёр или даже свою собственную жизнь больше, чем Меня, он не может быть Моим учеником.

27

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

27

Кто не несёт свой крест и не следует за Мной, не может быть Моим учеником.

28

For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

28

Если кто из вас захочет построить башню, разве не сядет он прежде всего подсчитать, во сколько она ему обойдётся и достаточно ли у него средств, чтобы завершить строительство?

29

Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

29

Иначе, если он заложит основание, но не сможет закончить дом, все видевшие это, станут над ним смеяться,

30

Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

30

говоря: "Этот человек начал строить, но не смог закончить".

Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

31

Или какой царь вступит в войну с другим царём, не посоветовавшись прежде, сможет ли он с десятью тысячами противостоять идущему на него с двадцатью тысячами?

32

Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

32

И если не сможет, то пошлёт послов узнать об условиях мира, пока другой ещё далеко.

33

So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

33

Так и каждый из вас, кто не откажется от всего, что имеет, не может быть Моим учеником!

Good Salt

Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

34

Соль хороша, но если она станет безвкусной, то какой от неё прок? Ведь её нельзя снова сделать солёной.

35

It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

35

Она не годится ни в землю, ни в удобрение, и люди выбрасывают её. Имеющий уши, да слышит!"
