And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
Він сказав: «В одному місті був собі суддя, який Бога не боявся та й людей не поважав.
And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
У той час була там собі вдова. Вона все ходила до судді й просила: „Захисти мене від мого супротивника!”
And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
І тривалий час він не хотів її захищати. Та якось сказав собі: „Навіть опріч те, що я не боюся Бога й не поважаю людей, все ж через те, що ця вдова набридає мені, я допоможу їй, щоб не ходила й не докучала більше”».
Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
І запитав тоді Господь: «Чули, що сказав той неправедний суддя?
And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
То чи ж не візьме Бог під захист цих обраних, що день і ніч кличуть Його? Чи ж баритиметься Він з допомогою їм?
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
Повірте, Він швидко візьме їх під Свій захист. Однак, коли прийде Син Людський, то чи знайде Він віруючих в Господа на землі?»
The Pharisee and Tax Collector
And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

Для тих, хто був переконаний у своїй праведності й на інших дивився зверхньо, Ісус розповів таку притчу:
Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
«Двоє чоловіків прийшли до Храму помолитися. Один був фарисеєм, другий — збирачем податків.
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Фарисей стояв один і так молився: „О Боже, дякую Тобі за те, що я не такий, як інші — розбійники, шахраї та розпусники або навіть, як отой збирач податків.
I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
Я пощуся двічі на тиждень, сплачую десятину з усіх своїх прибутків”.
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
А збирач податків стояв віддалік і, навіть не підводячи очей до неба, він покірливо промовляв: „О Боже, змилуйся наді мною, грішником!”
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Повірте, цей чоловік, а не той перший, пішов додому з прощеними гріхами. Бо кожен, хто намагається піднестися, буде принижений, а кожен принижений буде піднесений».
Jesus Blesses the Children
And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.

But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
Але Ісус сказав: «Пустіть дітей до Мене і не зупиняйте їх, бо Царство Боже належить таким, як вони.
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
Істинно кажу вам: хто не приймає Царство Боже так же щиро, як мала дитина, той ніколи в нього не ввійде».
The Rich Young Ruler
And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Один із лідерів юдейських запитав Ісуса: «Вчителю Добрий, що мушу я робити, аби успадкувати вічне життя?»
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
Ісус відповів: «Чому ти називаєш Мене Добрим? Ніхто не є добрим, крім Самого Бога.
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
Тобі відомі заповіді: „Не чини перелюбу, не вбивай, не кради, не бреши про інших, шануй батька й матір своїх”.
And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
А той каже: „З юності я дотримуюся цих заповідей”.
Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
Коли Ісус почув ці слова, Він відповів: „Тобі бракує одного: продай усе, що маєш, а що вторгуєш, роздай бідним. І ти будеш мати багатство на Небі. Тоді приходь і слідуй за Мною”».
And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
Вислухавши Ісуса, той чоловік глибоко засмутився, бо був він дуже багатий.
And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
Ісус, побачивши, що він засумував, сказав: «Тяжко буде багатим ввійти в Царство Боже!
For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Легше верблюдові пройти крізь голчане вушко, ніж багатому ввійти в Царство Боже».
And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
Почувши це, люди запитали Ісуса: «То хто ж тоді може бути спасенний?»
And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
Ісус відповів: «Неможливе для людей — можливе для Бога».
Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
Тоді Петро промовив: «Поглянь! Ми залишили все й пішли за Тобою!»
And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
Тоді Ісус сказав їм: «Правду кажу вам: кожний, хто залишив хату свою, дружину, братів, сестер, матір, батька або дітей своїх заради Царства Божого, ще в цьому житті отримає в безліч разів більше, а також нагороду вічного життя в прийдешні часи».
Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
Jesus Again Predicts His Death
Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

Ісус, відвівши вбік дванадцятьох апостолів, сказав їм: «Послухайте! Ми йдемо до Єрусалиму, і все, що було написано пророками про Сина Людського, здійсниться.
For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
Його народ піде проти Нього, і віддасть Його до рук поган. Ті збиткуватимуться з Нього, знущатимуться, плюватимуть на Нього.
And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
Його битимуть батогами, а потім вб’ють, але на третій день Він воскресне з мертвих».
And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
Та учні Ісуса всього цього не розуміли. Зміст сказаного був прихований від них, і вони не знали, про що Він говорить.
Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar
And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.
І йому відповіли, що це пройшов Ісус із Назарета.
And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
І тоді сліпий голосно вигукнув: «Ісусе, Сину Давидів, змилуйся наді мною!»
And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
Ті з натовпу, що йшли попереду, почали докоряти йому, щоб він замовк. Але він гукав ще голосніше: «Сину Давидів, змилуйся наді мною!»
And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,
Тоді Ісус зупинився й сказав: «Підведіть його до Мене!» Коли той підійшов, Ісус запитав його:
Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
«Що ти хочеш, щоб Я зробив для тебе?» Жебрак сказав: «Господи, я знову хочу бачити».
And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
Тоді Він промовив: «Твій зір негайно повернеться. Віра твоя врятувала [63] тебе».
