Darby Bible Translation

  • Paul and Barnabas at Iconium

And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.
  • Paul and Barnabas at Iconium

And it came to pass in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake that a great multitude of both Jews and Greeks believed.
  • But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.
  • But the Jews who did not believe stirred up the minds of [those of] the nations and made [them] evil-affected against the brethren.
  • Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
  • They stayed therefore a good while, speaking boldly, [confiding] in the Lord, who gave witness to the word of his grace, giving signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
  • But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.
  • And the multitude of the city was divided, and some were with the Jews and some with the apostles.
  • And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,
  • And when an assault was making, both of [those of] the nations and [the] Jews with their rulers, to use [them] ill and stone them,
  • They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:
  • they, being aware of it, fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the surrounding country,
  • And there they preached the gospel.
  • and there they were announcing the glad tidings.
  • The Visit to Lystra and Derbe

And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:
  • The Visit to Lystra and Derbe

And a certain man in Lystra, impotent in his feet, sat, [being] lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked.
  • The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,
  • This [man] heard Paul speaking, who, fixing his eyes on him, and seeing that he had faith to be healed,
  • Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.
  • said with a loud voice, Rise up straight upon thy feet: and he sprang up and walked.
  • And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.
  • But the crowds, who saw what Paul had done, lifted up their voices in Lycaonian, saying, The gods, having made themselves like men, are come down to us.
  • And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.
  • And they called Barnabas Jupiter, and Paul Mercury, because he took the lead in speaking.
  • Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.
  • And the priest of Jupiter who was before the city, having brought bulls and garlands to the gates, would have done sacrifice along with the crowds.
  • Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,
  • But the apostles Barnabas and Paul, having heard [it], rent their garments, and rushed out to the crowd, crying
  • And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:
  • and saying, Men, why do ye these things? *We* also are men of like passions with you, preaching to you to turn from these vanities to the living God, who made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all things in them;
  • Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.
  • who in the past generations suffered all the nations to go in their own ways,
  • Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.
  • though indeed he did not leave himself without witness, doing good, and giving to you from heaven rain and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.
  • And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.
  • And saying these things, they with difficulty kept the crowds from sacrificing to them.
  • And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.
  • But there came Jews from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds and stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing him to have died.
  • Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.
  • But while the disciples encircled him, he rose up and entered into the city. And on the morrow he went away with Barnabas to Derbe.
  • The Return to Syrian Antioch

And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,
  • The Return to Syrian Antioch

And having announced the glad tidings to that city, and having made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and Iconium, and Antioch,
  • Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
  • establishing the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to abide in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.
  • And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.
  • And having chosen them elders in each assembly, having prayed with fastings, they committed them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.
  • And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.
  • And having passed through Pisidia they came to Pamphylia,
  • And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:
  • and having spoken the word in Perga, they came down to Attalia;
  • The Report to the Church at Antioch

And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.
  • The Report to the Church at Antioch

and thence they sailed away to Antioch, whence they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled.
  • And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.
  • And having arrived, and having brought together the assembly, they related to them all that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith to the nations.
  • And there they abode long time with the disciples.
  • And they stayed no little time with the disciples.
