Tertullus Accuses Paul Before Felix

And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.

А через п’ять днів прибув первосвященик Ананій зі старшими та якимсь промовцем Тертилом, котрі скаржилися намісникові на Павла.

And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,

Коли його закликали, Тертил почав звинувачувати, кажучи: Маємо тривалий мир — завдяки тобі, і завдяки твоїй дбайливості цей народ має добробут;

We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

це ми, преславний Феліксе, завжди й усюди зі щирою вдячністю визнаємо.

Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.

Але щоби довго тебе не турбувати, прошу тебе з властивою тобі доброзичливістю коротко вислухати нас.

For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

Бо знайшовши цього згубного чоловіка, який провокує колотнечу між усіма юдеями в цілому світі, який є провідником назорейської єресі

Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.

та намагався збезчестити храм, ми схопили його [й хотіли судити за нашим Законом.

But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,

А тисяцький Лисій, надійшовши з великою силою, вирвав його з наших рук, наказавши його обвинувачам з’явитися до тебе].

Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.

Від нього зможеш сам, розпитавши, про все це довідатися, у чому ми його звинувачуємо.

And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.

9

Приєдналися і юдеї, стверджуючи, що так воно і є.

Paul Defends His Testimony

Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:

А Павло, коли намісник дав йому знак говорити, відповів: Знаючи, що ти багато років є суддею цього народу, відважно себе захищатиму,

11

Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.

11

бо ти можеш довідатися, що не більше дванадцяти днів, як я прийшов у Єрусалим поклонитися.

12

And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:

12

І ні в храмі, ні в синагогах, ні в місті не знайшли мене, щоб я з кимсь сперечався або зчиняв колотнечу між людьми;

13

Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.

13

не можуть вони довести тобі й того, у чому тепер мене звинувачують.

14

But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

14

Визнаю перед тобою, що згідно із цим напрямом вчення, який вони звуть єрессю, я служу Богові батьків, вірячи в усе, що написано в Законі та в Пророків.

15

And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

15

І маю в Бозі надію на те, чого вони й самі очікують: що має бути воскресіння [мертвих] — праведних і неправедних.

16

And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

16

І я пильно дбаю про те, щоби завжди мати незаплямовану совість перед Богом і людьми.

17

Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.

17

А по багатьох роках прийшов я, щоби принести моєму народові милостиню та пожертвування.

18

Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.

18

При цьому знайшли мене очищеного в храмі, а не з юрбою і не із заколотом.

19

Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.

19

Деяким же юдеям з Азії належало б перед тобою стати й говорити, коли мають щось проти мене.

20

Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,

20

Або хай вони самі скажуть, яку неправду знайшли [в мене], коли я стояв перед синедріоном;

21

Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

21

хіба що цей єдиний вислів, який я вигукнув, стоячи між ними: Сьогодні ви мене судите за воскресіння мертвих!

Felix Holds Paul in Custody

And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.

[Почувши це], Фелікс, дуже добре обізнаний із цим напрямом учення, відклав їхню справу, кажучи: Коли тисяцький Лисій прийде, розсуджу вас!

And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.

І він наказав сотникові охороняти його, але дати полегшення і нікому з близьких не забороняти йому прислуговувати [чи приходити] до нього.

24

And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

А через декілька днів прийшов Фелікс зі своєю дружиною Друзилою, яка була юдейкою, покликав Павла, щоби почути від нього про віру в Ісуса Христа.

25

And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

Коли він говорив про праведність, стриманість та майбутній суд, Фелікс, перелякавшись, відповів: Тепер досить, іди, а відповідного часу я покличу тебе!

He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

Водночас він сподівався, що Павло дасть йому грошей, [щоб він його відпустив]. Тому й часто його викликав та розмовляв з ним.

27

But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.

27

Коли минуло два роки, на зміну Феліксові прибув його наступник Порцій Фест. Та Фелікс, бажаючи догодити юдеям, залишив Павла ув’язненим.
